And they might be behind the glass, but this is the first time that we've been able to
see the Sony S1 and the S2 tablet. The are two different form factors. The S1 has a 9.4
inch screen, and the S2 has two 5.5 inch screens, and is more of a clam shell design. Now these
tablets are gonna run whatever the latest Android OS is when they launch.
The design of the S1 is interesting in a sense that it's not the typical oblong. It's got
one side that's a little bit thicker than the other. Sony says that's gonna be more
comfortable when your holding it in portrait mode, so perhaps when your reading E-books,
for example. Now the S1 is gonna give you the option of having WIFI and 3G or just WIFI.
While with the S2 you've already got the WIFI and 3G version. But the S1 and S2 have Sony
Play Station, so there will be a suite of Play Station games available, and you'll be
able to bring up on screen controls, so that it's Play station controls that users will
be familiar with. The S1 has infra-red signals so you can set it up to control your TV.
Both of them also have DLNA. Now that's the way of sharing content. And what Sony says
you'll be able to do, is have a video or some content on your screen and then flick it to
another DLNA enabled device, such as a TV and start playing the content there. And we
haven't been able to touch the devices.
But both models seem to have front facing cameras so you'll be able to chat over the
internet, and they're also cameras on both models. It doesn't look as though there's
a flash. On the side you've got volume rockers, power on-and-off, and both have USB ports,
which is great because you don't see too many tablets with USB connectivity.
So that's the Sony S1 tablet, the more conventional looking tablet. And the Sony S2 tablet with
its clam shell more portable form factor. We expect to see working models of these in
the early part in September, so be sure to check out our website then.
But if you can't until then, and you want to check out reviews of other tablets, then
