UNM Tops New Sandoval Regional Medical Center
>>DR. PAUL ROTH/UNM CHANCELLOR FOR HEALTH SCIENCES: Well, we’re celebrating a very
important point in the construction of our brand new hospital, Sandoval Regional Medical
Center. It’s called the topping off ceremony, where the very last piece of structural steel
is put into place and it’s a major step in finally being able to implement and provide
the kinds of very much needed services that the residents of Sandoval County have.
>>DR. DAVID SCHMIDLY/UNM PRESIDENT: What we will be doing here is not only taking care
of patients but we will be training the next generation of healthcare professionals. So
it’s a wonderful opportunity. It’s a win-win and most of all it’s a win for the people
of New Mexico and Sandoval County.
>>JACK FORTNER/PRESIDENT, UNM BOARD OF REGENTS: Let me say this: when you ask about economic
development in New Mexico, this is it. Right. This is the epitome of economic development.
This is great. And the other thing about it is that it clearly meets an unmet need for
health services in this county. And most importantly with the support of Sandoval County residents.
DARRYL MADALENA/CHAIR, SANDOVAL COUNTY COMMISSOIN: What a great sight it is out there. Beautiful
sight, I mean, once the dust settles and you can see the building. But this is such an
amazing turn of events - we’ve had the need for health care, health care systems, especially
for those of us living in rural communities, this is such a sight to behold. And I’d
like to thank everyone who’s had a part in this building going up, it’s for our
community.
