Mark - You have less than an hour to go to register to vote for next month's Presidential
election. The deadline in California is midnight, to register. Eyewitness news reporter Robert
Holguin is live in Santa Ana, where people are making that last minute dash, and they
don't even have to get out of their cars. Robert.
Robert - That's true Mark. You know... in Southern California we love our cars, so drive-through
voting booths, and registration lines, would seem to make a lot of sense. This turned out
to be a very popular event here, in Santa Ana. Elsewhere in the southland, other, more
conventional registration methods proved to be just as popular.

Robert - This might look like a traffic jam, but it's actually, democracy in action.
Don - You know, you keep you out of the hold up, the hassle, and the hustle & bustle of
everything. So, it's just real quick, to get it done and over with and, it's really convenient.
Robert - As the voter registration deadline approached, they came to Santa Ana by the
hundreds. Whether they registered in their cars or on a table, all seemed eager to participate
in next month's General Election.
John - This is my very first time voting, I haven't ever voted in my life, I'm 20 years
old. Um... this is a new experience to me, it seems like it's a positive experience.
Robert - Those who were already registered, had a rare opportunity, to vote from the comfort
of their car. Did you ever think you'd be driving up to
vote?
Art - No I Didn't. (laughs) As a matter of fact, I didn't believe my wife when she was
telling me, I go, 'come on girl' but yeah we got here, it's great.
Robert - Orange County becomes the only county in California to offer drive-through early
voting.
Neal - We're trying to tap into people that may not have wanted to vote or taken the time
otherwise, and here's an opportunity for them to do it without getting out of their car.
Robert - In L.A. County, the rush to register was also on. In Norwalk tonight, the last-minute
crowd was motivated, primarily, by the presidential race.
- I did it because it's probably the most important election, in my lifetime...
Robert - And this early voting, and early registration, was a one-time deal. It ends
at midnight tonight, but early voting, of course, continues. The registrar here just
wanted to see how many people would participate, and as I mentioned, the line still continues
for registration. So it turns out to be a very successful event. Reporting live from
Santa Ana, Robert Holguin, ABC-7 Eyewitness News.
