Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but arguably the Aventador looks stunning.
Its sharp shape seems sculptured with a blade rather than sketched with a pen.
Usually, converting a coupe to a roadster destroys the harmony of the original design
but this is not the case with the Aventador.
The carbon fibre roof opens up in two pieces that can be removed manually
and stored at the specially designed mounts in the front trunk.
The Aventador Roadster is only 50 kg heavier than the coupe.
Lamborghini did an excellent job on the aerodynamics.
Of course you can’t chat with the co-driver at 200 km/h, due to engine noise
but the cockpit is perfectly protected from turbulence.
Lambo’s philosophy on engine spec can be described with one word: extravagance.
What else can you say about a V12 engine made of exotic and light alloys,
that needs no less than 13 lt of lubricant and 25 lt of coolant,
produces 700 horsepower and 70 kgm of torque
and of course, THIS sound…
Lamborghini's choice on the drivetrain is still a single clutch gearbox
because it's lighter and more compact sized compared to a dual-clutch trannsmission.
In automatic mode it is smooth but not as fast as Ferrari’s double clutch.
But when you select the sportier setting, “Corsa”, it resembles a racing gearbox.
The ultra fast gear changes match the speed of the best dual-clutch systems,
while the kick on the upshifts with the throttle wide open gives a pure,
hardcore racing feeling, unique in the world of road cars.
On rough and bumpy roads you notice some vibrations
that were not present in the coupe, but overall rigidity is fine.
You never feel the roof loss affecting driving dynamics.
When you get used to its width on twisty mountain roads,
you find yourself driving the Aventador in a totally insane pace.
The drivetrain deals easily with the 700 PS and gives a friendly demeanor to the car.
Slight understeer is a sign that you've reached the limit,
and from there it’s up to you and your right foot.
You can lift the throttle a bit, to transfer some load to the front,
and then get back on it as the tail comes into play at the apex
to create a spectacular four-wheel drift towards the exit
with almost no lock on the steering wheel.
It is widely known that Lamborghini became a supercars’ manufacturer
due to a dispute with Enzo Ferrari.
Ferruccio was unhappy with the reliability issues of his Ferrari 250 GT,
and Enzo’s indifference on his complaints.
So, he decided to start building his own supercars,
just to prove to Ferrari that he could do it better.
Ferruccio had owned some of the most desirable machines of the 60’s.
But none of them was satisfying him totally.
The one wasn’t fast enough, the other not as comfortable as he wanted for long trips
So the aim for his supercars was nothing less than perfection.
Reality proved tough. Lamborghinis have always been powerful and emotional cars,
but up until now suffered from reliability issues
and were difficult to drive and to live with.
The first model in the brand’s history
that makes Ferruccio’s vision for the perfect supercar come true
is the Aventador. Especially the Roadster version.
