[Sergeant Mark Woodward] The SMS texting service is a facility
that the Police have
available to them in our force control room,
which is open 24/7.
The facilities that are currently available
for those people that are deaf, hard of hearing,
have a speech impairment, or have a specific need
and might not be able to use normal telephones for communication
can now have an opportunity to report things
and have a 2 way conversation by SMS text
with an operator in the control room.
And when a text comes in they can send a response
to say they have recieved it,
and then you'll have a 2 way texting session
so we can get enough information to decide whether you need
a Police attendance or whether we need to provide you with advice
get you breakdown recovery
or help you wherever you are.
It costs you absolutely nothing to register
and you can do that either by literature, we have leaflets,
some of those we have provided to the College
or alternatively there is a website
the Police website, which is
www.gloucestershire.police.uk
and we can show you that in more detail on the screen if necessary
and on there is a copy of the leaflet, an online registration form
all you need to do is provide a name
and an address and a mobile number or numbers which you would like to use.
I'll send you a text back to say that you are now on our system
and that allows you to get your text through to the sergeants
or inspectors who monitor the system.
