One of my customers was rear-ended on a God awful stretch of road.
Beyond busy, hundreds of thousands of cars on it every single day.
She was rear-ended, and she said "Let's pull over,"
and the person behind her said "Let's pull over."
She pulled over; other person, gone.
She's on the line, freaking out, "What do I do? What do I do? What do I do?"
And I said, "You can't do anything. But we're here."
You never know who's going to be on the phone when you pick it up.
It might be a bear eating the car.
Yeah, it might be something heartbreaking.
Someone's child may have passed in a drunk driving accident.
You just never know.
One particular experience, a husband passes away.
I go to her house and deliver the check. It was my first death claim.
She says, "David, thank you so much. I'm going to be able to keep this house
and keep my daughter in school here." It just touched -- it touched me, yeah.
If you sat in my agency with me all day, and you heard the phone ring,
some of the stories are heartbreaking. Heartbreaking.
We counsel a customer, hang the phone up, and then I say to myself,
"God, I do that."
I have a picture on my desk of my family, and underneath it,
there's a caption that says "What is important to you?"
I'm not going to give a policy to one of my customers
that I wouldn't write on myself or I would not write for a family member.
My concern is you can sleep at night.
And if you can sleep at night, I can sleep at night.
