All right, so now we're going to be learning a hip hop move from the South. This is used
in many classes, many music videos. It's a pretty popular move. And then we're going
to go into a turn. This is a basic turn used in ballet, and it's called the Chaines. So,
this is the hip hop move. It goes: right arm, left foot. You're going to be on the ball
of your foot, and your chest is going to pop out and a little bit of body roll. You just
want to start in the beginning, don't worry about the body roll, just try to get the movement.
You're going to step out, switch, left arm, right leg, switch, and double that one up.
Bring the feet together. One more time slow. We're going to go up, up, and double it up.
Then bring it together. Faster, it looks like this: one, two, three, four. All right, one,
two, three, four, we end up right here. We're going to get into that ballet move that we
are calling a Chaines. So preparation is right here. There's many variations of preparation;
today we're going to start right here. You're going to keep your shoulders rolled back,
your arms right in front of you. And cross them just a little bit because you're going
to need a little bit of momentum to go that way. Ok, so we're going to go to the right.
You're going to make sure you find a spot on the wall. That spot is where you're going
to start looking and at the end of your turn, it's where you're going to be still looking.
Ok, so your head tries to never leave that spot, and let me give you a demonstration
before we break it down. You're going to step, look, look, look. Ok? Always end up looking
that way. So, to break down a basic Chaines turn, you're going to step across, step out
with the right leg, open it up, and always be looking at your spot. Bring in the left
leg to meet the right. Step out again, bring it in again, bring it out, bring it in again.
One more time. Shoulders back, arms straight out, open it up, one to the left, look to
the right, look again, look again, and you're done. And you can end in many different ways.
Today, we're going to turn, turn, turn and kind of step out. More fierce, more hip hop.
So, let's start and try to put it all together very slow. You're going to go up, up, up,
together, and cross, open-close, open-close, open-close, step. Ok? And that's some Southern
moves with your basic Chaines turn. Let me do it a little bit faster for you, so you
know what it should look like at the end. You're here, and you go up, up, up, hit and
cross, one, two, three, out. And there's your basic Chaines.
