Am I recording now? When the green light flashes?
-Yeah. Can see it. It says 'rec'.
Okay. You wouldn't want it to go wrong.
So, here we are. We're preparing todays shoot.
That's the camera operator.
Before I have my farewell party at this school, we're going to use the classroom for the clip...
to film something for the videoclip.
Everyone knows that I also work as a school teacher.
And besides that, a singer.
That's my hobby.
It's fun! Yeah fun!
It was a good idea, Jasper.
This is the classroom where I enjoyed myself assisting today.
That was nice.
But now, the serious stuff.
The serious stuff... (preliminary talk, syncing plans)
...so, here we have just been discussing the plan.
Plan of Action.
Jasper is not kidding.
Usually it takes him about eight pages to write down a plan...
but this time he compressed it nicely to one page. One and a half.
It's the plan we can work from.
It briefly contains his ideas about the clip...
and my own ideas about it.
I must say I really like the ideas we have.
We decided to make three different settings to record.
One location will be the school,
in the classroom.
Why? Well, of course I am retiring very soon.
To be accurate: I am retiring next week.
It's nice to show that I also was a teacher.
That I am a teacher.
You are a teacher for life!
That's the primary location we're going to use.
We are also going to film in the car.
I'll walk to the car.
I will show the car.
There, across the street.
You can't see it very well from here...
I will zoom in. I learned that today.
There it is.
The fast car. Foxies fast car.
Part 1 'in the car'
We are enjoying ourselves in the car right now.
I just drove around.
Jasper was sitting beside me in this seat.
He made the recordings. He filmed the Papiamentu version...
as the Surinam version...
And he was very pleased with it!
Now he is banned to the backseat.
He must of course wear his seatbelts.
Wouldn't be good, doing the recordings and getting a penalty from the law enforcement.
...so we are going to do the driving again.
Same route.
And Jasper will film from the backseats.
He had to sit in the back -because he was naughty- and he'll film me from over there...
Same two songs. But he told me we don't have to do full versions of them.
We are just doing parts of the songs.
-Supplemental clips.
I hope this is clear. And that this recording will be okay..
I am just turning to the left and to the right all the time...
I have faith. It'll be okay.
We're stopping for a short moment.
Now I am supposed to...
...I am supposed to drive through that street in a minute.
And Jasper will make a few different recordings of that. Of my incredible car...
My fabulous car.
You can see it. A fast car.
I will take my place in the car now.
And I'll start driving. But of course without this camera in my hand.
Ciao ciao!
Getting out of the car cool (part of part 1)
This is the place where we -we have to wait for a while first...
where we are going to shoot the 'getting out of the car' scene.
Getting out of the car.
Wait, let me get my hat.
I am getting out now.
This is the scene in which I come driving into the cameraframe.
I must stop somewhere around here.
And then you see my feet, when I get out of the car.
We´re almost professional film makers.
-Have a look!
If you get out of the car here...
...and you open the door here...
...and then you do this. -Yes, I understand that.
-I´ll stay here on the street.
Don´t drive over me please.
We are going back to the school.
Where we will do the next the part of the shoot.
Of course we are dressed in blue.
Look, Jasper is in his blue trousers too.
The song is ´Blue´ in Surinam, and ´Blue´ in Papiamentu.
This is the outside of the school.
Beautiful school, isn´t it?
Leslieboy made sure he left the school in a good shape.
We´re leaving a beautiful school behind.
I´m joking.
Let´s see if we can get in, Jasper!
Then we can go on with our work.
-Do you have the crowbar?
Part 2 ´at the bar´
Well that´s not funny. I recorded a whole piece. But I didn´t.
I´ll start over.
This is what we call ´the bar´, where we will be recording the second setting soon.
It´s actually the school kitchen.
And here we have wine. And pistachios.
Drinks.
Yeah, we´re selling drinks.
We have made coffee as well.
And Jasper rented some lights.
Look a that.
I don´t really understand all that technical stuff. But that´s what I have him for...
There he is.
Well prepared.
He brought a lot of gear.
This is becoming a professional production.
Jasper wasn´t pleased with this. The small viewfinder screen.
You can´t really see what is going on on that small screen.
Focussing is more difficult that way. And therefore he rented...
...this bigger screen. So we can frame and focus better with the camera!
So. We did another part.
The glasses have been used...
We took a very little sip.
We´re still happy.
Aren´t we, Jasper? -Yes, we are.
It´s going well.
Of course this stuff wasn´t in the frame.
It had to look lake a bar or something.
Here were some ´Zwarte Pieten´ from the Sinterklaas celebration decoration.
We had to take them down. Sorry for them. But we´re hanging them back as we speak.
If we don´t the children will be angry with us tomorrow.
And we wouldn´t want that to happen!
Here we have Zwarte Piet. Nicely put back.
And he will stay there.
We didn´t need him in the videoclip.
Jasper is also hanging the decoration back.
When Sinterklaas comes by next week, we´d have a problem if this wasn´t restored properly.
Isn´t that true? -Yes it is.
Here´s another Pieterbaas.
We´ll hang that back too.
Zwarte Piet, wiedewiedewiet.
Who doesn´t know him?
Well that´s fun too.
All these Pieten have all different colors.
And now we´re going to do the third setting of the videoclip!
-The most difficult.
Yes.The third one is the most difficult.
But we´ll make something of it.
I think so.
Food (Leslie cooked us some pizza)
...I pressed the button! Does that green light keep flashing normally?
-Ehr.. show me... Damn!
You´re not telling me I did not record that, again?
As you can see: the class is neatly cleaned.
Chairs on the table. The children have put the chairs on the tables.
We are going to film here soon. We decided it was a good idea to leave the chairs on the tables.
We thought that would be nice.
And when I turn around...
..and when we look that way...
when we look outside the classroom... Jasper had a great idea.
through the opening of the door.
..then you see the door, the classroom, the chairs and you.
That will be a more difficult shoot.
But we´ll know in a while.
Look at that!
-What did you cook for us, Leslie?
Yeah, pizza! -O nice.
Looks good, doesn´t it?
Yeah, you´re laughing ´cause you don´t believe it.
But I always pack it that way. In those boxes. I keep them in a special place in the classroom.
But what do we have?
Extravaganza! -It´s Extravaganza.
But we´ve got to start eating now.
I recorded this part for the third time now. I screwed up multiple times.
That one´s mine. Vegetarian pizza!
We are very hungry. And there are our soda´s. And the camera.
-Is the recording light on?
The hungry Jasper. Yes the light is on now!
Part 3 ´ending/beginning and the classroom´
We just talked it through.
It´ll be different shots.
We wrote the last things that have to be done on this paper.
You can see it. Six different things on the list.
And like we said, this is probably the most difficult part to do for us.
Well... Here we´ll do some... some...
Some shooting... Shooting challenges.
And I have to act a bit.
My acting skills. Well, skills?
The opening shot for the clip.
And the ending. Also.
I find that challenging.
We are going to film the start of the videoclip right now.
It is an important part of the clip.
Because when the audience sees the beginning, it has to be drawn into the clip a bit.
The first few seconds could draw the audience in. You have to think about that when you make the clip.
Or that you zap away to another channel....
Or your curiosity is tickled and you keep watching.
So we´re trying to make an opening that hopefully does draw you in a bit.
And that´s why Jasper says it´s the most difficult part.
He is busy inside.
-Am I on it properly?
That´s a lot of light.
-A lot of light.
Can you sit there?
I´ll go and sit there for a moment.
I´ll sit and Jasper will check if this is usable.
Now we´re going to do it.
We just finished filming the openingshot.
We filmed throught these chairs.
That gave a very nice picture from outside the classroom to my desk.
We used the location well!
We just did another difficult scene.
I had to look a certain way, in the camera. And then I had to look away.
We did that for the beginning and for the ending.
And now I will be filmed performing the songs in the two languages.
This time I may get up and walk around.
That´s going to be different.
Cozy.
Cozy. May I walk around?
You can see that the classroom is still dark.
Meanwhile the cleaners are busy out there.
Cleaning the school.
They needed the light to work...
Maybe they finished cleaning already?
I have a lot of good memories from this place.
The Maaspleinschool. Leslie.
Where I have been teaching for years 38 years.
But with great pleasure!
And in the very final moment, two days before I retire...
...I again get to use the school. Unbelievable.
Paybacktime!
Payback from the school to Leslie.
Cozy.
I didn´t eat all my pizza. Let´s see if I can zoom in.
Yes I can.
We finished shooting!
The cd-player is still playing.
You´re hearing other songs from my CD.
It´s done. We did it.
Now the lights are cooling down.
They did a good job.
It was a busy day.
And we´re happy.
We didn´t shoot one dv-tape. We got to a second tape.
Jasper said that if that happens, we worked hard.
That´s a good sign for the production.
This was our After the... Behind the...
What´s it called, Jasper? -Behind the Scenes.
Behind the Scenes! -Or ´the Making of...´.
The Making of Leslie Vaughn. Leslie Vos.
Leslie Vos. That´s better.
Singing Blauw in Papiamentu and singing Blaw in Surinam.
Bye bye!
Today´s the 28th November.
And we´re going to say goodbye.
Nice song to end this with.
