This video will show you how to resize an image so that it can be used for your Avatar
in Blackboard.
We will use an online image editor to resize
the image. This program is called Pixlr. So, to begin type www.pixlr.com into your internet
browser bar. When the page loads choose Open Pixlr editor
(Advanced)
When the editor options dialog box appears,
choose Open image from computer (the second option).
This will launch a file browsing window, navigate
to where you have saved your picture and choose it by selecting it and clicking open, or by
double clicking it.
Your image should now appear in the editing
window. For the Blackboard Avatar it is recommended that your image be no larger than 150 by 150
pixels.
This image is 500 by 500 pixels currently.
To resize the image, click on Image from the
menu commands at the top of the editing window, then choose Image size from the drop-down
menu.
This will open the Image size selection box.
Here you can change the image size to 150 by 150 pixels. Make sure that the Constrain
proportions check box is checked. If your image is not a square, you need to
make sure that both width and height are under 150 pixels - I recommend changing the height
to 150 and seeing if the width is also under 150.
You can adjust the settings until you get
the proportions you want, or you can crop the image to make it a square. To crop the
image you would choose the crop tool (top left option on the tools menu) Then click
and drag around the part of the image you want to keep. Press enter once you have the
area you want.
You can now go back to the Image size selection
box and adjust the size of your image, click OK once both Width and Height are 150 pixels
or less.
Click on File, and choose save from the drop-down
menu. I recommend naming the file your name dash 150 pixels so you can easily find it
later. You can leave all the other settings as they are.
Click OK and navigate to where you want to
save the file. I'm just going to save mine in my Pictures folder. That's it - you're
done! You can now go back and update your Avatar in Blackboard.
