Hi, I'm Miriam Rivera, class of '86 undergrad, '89 masters,
'95 JDMBA.
I grew up in inner city Chicago with a single mom who was
raising five kids on her own.
Stanford really changed the trajectory of my life.
It paved the way for completely different life from what my
family had known.
Having a scholarship was fundamental.
I wouldn't have been able to come to Stanford without one.
My Stanford scholarship enabled me to aspire to more than I
ever thought possible, or more than my family ever dreamed I
could become.
I really needed the support of people like my scholarship
donor and the Stanford community to make it possible, and
they really helped me to reach for heights that I didn't
imagine were possible for me.
I went back to Stanford and asked them for the name of my
donor because I really wanted to say thank you.
It was something that had meant so much to me, and when I
was able to, my family and I decided to fund a scholarship
of our own at Stanford so that we could help other folks,
and I also wanted the donor to know that they had inspired
us to make a difference in that way.
Their help and their support made all of this possible.
