Now I have finished sewing all the strips on to our area rug. And now I will show you
how to finish it off with a backing. You'll need two more pieces to finish our area rug.
You'll need one backing piece that is going to be the same size as our original base piece.
And you can put that together with some more legs of jeans or really any scraps that you
want to sew together. And we'll also need one final strip. But this strip is going to
be cut four inches wide instead of the five inches. So one inch less then the rest of
the strips. And this will be our final finishing strip that we'll sew on at the end. Now, we
will start down here. We want to sew our finishing panel, our back panel, on to the carpet right
side together. So the right side is going to be sewn to the front of the carpet. And
we want to pin this first flap, this first strip section out of the way. So you just
kind of; it doesn't matter how you pin it, you just throw some pins in there to keep
this out of the way while we are sewing. If you leave it down, you're likely to catch
it in the seam and you really want that to just lay free once we are all done. So just
pin that in a few spots to keep it out of the way. And then put the finishing panel,
right sides together and pin all along the edge. I'm going to sew it right here about
a 3/8 inch seam allowance all the around on this side. Okay. And then you want to pin,
you want to pin all the way down that side and then we're going to pin all the way up
this side. This is the edge of the rug. And when we sew this, we're going to sew as close
to the strips as possible. So you are going to sew right here. You are going to put the
foot, the pressure foot, right next to that edge. And sew all the way up that edge. And
we are going to leave the top open. So the side that has that final flap, that final
strip that we sewed on, this whole top we are going to leave open.
