Welcome. I'm Soul Wallace, Mobile Studio director for UniqueSquared.com. We're on board our
45 foot custom coach that's been converted into a mobile recording studio. We've partnered
with state of the art, top notch manufacturers with the best equipment and gear to outfit
our mobile studio. Duplicuts is going to take you on a tour to show you all the equipment
and gear we have on board. Welcome, let's go.
Alright guys welcome we are here in the control room at the UniqueSquared Mobile Studio. As
you can see we are running, pretty much a state of the art, a lot of the latest and
greatest gear any musician could want to get. On the control desk here we've got a dual
monitor setup provided by apple which works really great because I can have tracks on
one screen all laid out as it's playing left to right and then my mixers, mixers, faders,
pans, all that stuff on the right, on the other screen. Speaking of that we're running
Protools 9 the latest and greatest version of Protools 9 of course. And one of the great
things about Protools 9, is the fact that you can now run it in conjunction with any
interface, any audio interface you want. So because that's the case we are running it
into a Presonus 24.4.2. Presonus StudioLive is a great mixer very adaptable you can use
it in a studio setting, you can use it in a live situation, really one of the more flexible
all around mixers that you have at your disposal now-a-days. and the sound we're getting out
through these bad boys, quick little preview of some of the music we've been making. We're
running M-Audio DSM 2 monitors on our desk. Really great monitors provided to us by AVID
and under the desk here you have the Mac tower. It's a heck of a work horse for recording
all the audio tracks and sweetening it up with plugins and playback and other kinds
of stuff. It won't fail on you. And for anyone who comes in and wants to tinker around with
any of the plugins and plug their own computer their own laptop in and kind of tinker around
with some of the settings, we have the Akai MPK Mini. Its got 8 little touch sensitive
pads here and little mini keyboard 25 keys. It's a great little setup. That will bring
us over to our rack and our rack is complete. It's like busting at the seams with gear here.
If I start at the top we've got the Presonus HP-60 which allows up to 6 musicians to get
their own individual mixes on their headphones which is really nice. Sometimes a bass player
wants to hear the drums a bit higher but maybe the keyboard player doesn't. So it works out
great. And here we have a couple of things that, a couple of units that maybe people
don't realize Presonus makes. It's the ADL-600 and they're mic pres. They're actually really
really good mic pres combined with the microphones that we use with it, which we'll get into
in a little while, you get a very rich warm tone and obviously you can change that however
you need to depending on the situation but very great mic pres here ADL-600 by Presonus.
Here we have the Central Station. The PreSonus Central Station can determine whether i want
to hear my musical feed from the control room monitors up here and then I can switch it
right here with the press of a button and decide if I want to hear it from the tracking
area which we're going to get into that area in a little while. So this is a great pice
of gear here the Central Station. And that brings us to the Rack Eleven by DigiDesign
provided to us by AVID. This is a great piece of gear here some of you may be familiar this,
may be familiar with the plugin version of it which is great. The plugin version is fantastic.
But if you think this is just a hardware version of that you'd be sorely mistaken because this
can also act as an interface, an audio interface. So suppose you have this and you don't have
a full blown mixer on your desk, you can take this and have inputs going into it right into
your computer and it works perfectly with Protools 9. And then under that we've got
a Pro 3500 power conditioner provided to us by Monster. It's an excellent power conditioner
particularly in a situation like this where we're on a bus and sometimes you'll have fluctuations
in voltage and you'll have electro magnetic fields and things of that nature, this will
keep your gear in tip top shape. It will protect all your gear from any electrical anomalies
and occurrences. This works great on our bus, in our setup, and it would also work great
in your home. Once we wrap that up we're going to walk over to our vocal booth. Our crowning
jewel i might add. As I open the door here you'll notice the first thing is all laced
out in Auralex. Auralex provided us with a lot of the sound absorption you see here.
The whole bus is carpeted but whatever you don't see carpeted and you see these little
grey panels, purple panels and sometimes you'll see the blue panels, that's all provided by
Auralex. It provides a great sound absorption and sound diffusion, amazing products. Here
we were talking about earlier about the microphones. I don't know if you can see that here but
we've got the Shure KSM-42. A lot of MCs, a lot of performers and vocalists have been
raving about this. This is a really great mic combined with the ADL-600 I was talking
about earlier, great little combination there. Rich warm vocal tones, and it also helps to
bring out a lot of that bottom end that a lot of the men have when they come in here,
the vocalists have. A lot of the baritone vocal men will get that emphasized with this
microphone. Of course can't forget about the Beats by Dre headphones provided to us by
Monster. That's also a favorite of all the vocalists and performers who come on the bus.
They are always talking about the Beats by Dre. They see it and they're like, "Oh I haven't
seen those yet, I haven't tried those yet," and then they put it on they're like, "Oh
I wonder if I can take this home." So that brings us into the tracking area, and this
area here is one of my favorite because the area is actually kind of nice and cozy. Musicians
come in here and they immediately just feel right at home. Starting over in the rhythm
section area, the drum section, we've got the Alesis DM10. A great piece of gear. It's
got a bunch of kits here that you can just kind of scroll through and figure out I want
this kick, I want these toms and this snare. I want to tighten it up here and loosen it
up there, so really great piece of gear. And as we continue over here on my right we've
got your choice, we've got a plethora of Vox guitars. Vox really hooked us up and provided
us with a great array of string instruments here by way of their guitars. And over to
my left we've got the Mackie's. Mackie's HR824's are amazing back here. This space is obviously
a lot bigger than our control room so you want speakers that can accommodate that space
and these provide the thump. They've got excellent crisp mid range and very clear and defined
highs as well. So a great addition back here to monitor the music that's being made. And
over the past few weeks we've worked on a fair amount of hip hop and of course no hip
hop studio, no hip hop production outfit would be complete without an AKAI MPC 1000. This
little bad boy here, this little workhorse provides some of the beats that you heard.
Provides a lot of the artistry producers exhibit when they come on board and they want to decide
to work on beats and things of that nature. So great little piece of gear here. AKAI MPC
1000. And that brings us up to the little keyboard section. We've got the Korg M3. An
amazing piece of machinery here that's got some of the karma technology into it, built
in. Then we also have the AKAI MPK61. So again if someone is interested in just kind of plugging
their computer into it and having a nice little controller to work with, they've got 16 pads
here, you've got faders, rotary knobs that you can encode to whatever you want to. So
a great little piece of gear here on the Akai MPK 61. Now that brings us over to the Orange
Amp. Now for anyone out there who knows about amps this is a classic. Any studio you've
been to where you've got musicians jamming out and you've got the guitarist who want
nothing but the best and they're very discriminating in their taste, this is a go to amp the Orange
Tiny Terror here. And there's a couple of versions. The version we have here has the
power unit separate from the actual amp. There is another version where it's all combined
and all in one and you can kind of just plug it in and go. It's a great little piece of
gear. And again more Vox guitars here directly in front of me. We've got bass. It's quite
a set up that we have here ok. So UniqueSquared mobile studio. The greatest thing about all
the stuff that you see here is the execution of what we've done here is top notch, right.
You've got a recording studio on a bus, amazing, fantastic. But you don't obviously have to
have a bus to be able to get all this gear. All of this gear is super affordable. You
can go to UniqueSquared.com and say,"Hey, that's that drum set that Duplicuts was talking
about, i can actually get that that's like under $1000 bucks, and these guitars and the
PreSonus mixer." So all of this stuff that you've see here that I've shown you today
you can get all of the stuff at UniqueSquared.com. Feel free to visit us at anytime. UniqueSquared.com.
Be U Be Unique and this is Duplicuts coming at you live from the Mobile Studio.
Pretty impressive huh? Talk about mobile music. In addition to all of this fabulous gear that
duplicuts just shared with you, we're are also outfitted for DJs. We can showcase the
top DJ's and producers in the nation right here with the Unique Squared Mobile Studio.
We have the capability of doing so inside the bus and outside. DJ Scott Madflip is going
to take you on a quick tour to show you what we've been outfitted with.
What's going on this is Scott Magno DJ Madflip. I'm here at UniqueSquared mobile studio bus.
We're going to have a look at some of the DJ gear that we have on the bus provided by
Numark. Alright first off we have the Numark V7. This is going to be a Serato Itch controller
with a motorized turntable here. High torq specifically for Itch. It gets you in the
mix, you can easily navigate, high performance piece, all of my effects can be controlled
from the V7. Really nice piece of gear coming correct. We've got that going into the Numark
M6 USB mixer. This is going to be your four channel club type mixer. It has also the USB
outs so if you want to take your audio and record it into your software, the USB makes
it very easy to do that as well. If Vinyl is more your cup of tea when it comes to your
scratching we have got the Numark TTX. This is the highest torque turntable in the market
and it really doesn't fade as far as doing your cuts really comes correct. We can also
go in digitally from there as well. We've got that coupled with the Numark CX-1 Tony
Touch scratching needles. That's going to be a spherical needle so you won't have any
problems doing back cueing, really intricate cuts, and staying in the groove as well. Our
portable PA is going to be provided by Mackie. We're going to be using the Mackie SRM-450
V2. Now this is an active speaker system that's going to be bi-amped giving me 400 watts of
pristine sound. Couple that with a Monster cable and you will be good to go. We'll also
be using a full range of Mackie Subs in order to implement our sound so we can drop the
bass. We've got all of that going into the mixer with the monster cables the RCA to RCA
and the RCA to 1/4inch. So the best passage of audio from Monster cables provided. So
we've got the DJ gear set up right next to the vocal booth here so if we got any artist
that requires any kind of cuts whenever their tracking, the DJ can sit right here and make
it happen right here in the tracking room. We also use this setup if we're posted up
at an event and we've got it outside and we want to have DJ's come in who want to do a
performance. We take the same set up and we post it up outside as well. So you know what
if you've got vinyl emulation or vinyl manipulation, Numark's got you covered right here.
Thanks Scott, the UniqueSquared Mobile Studio is more than just a recording studio and DJ
rig on wheels. It's also a full media outlet with satellite, WiFi internet and and 8 55
inch flat screens to display video content. So there you have it. The Mobile Studio brought
