Good afternoon guys... how are you doing today?
I got a random question that **coughs**
don't die on camera...
anyway, I got a random question about my shirt because I always wear these white shirts
as I was saying I got a question about these white shirts, people are saying change and stuff like that...
actually, these are undershirts... I have like fifty of them
I just wear them under my shirts to not sweat them out...
but in Rio I can't wear anything on top of this and there's no reason to
T-Shirts are good enough
currently at the beach, gonna go show you guys a couple of cool things
all this crowd is here for that...
you guys just saw is: every December 31st at night and all day long
there is this ritual for the guardian of the sea, Yimaja
it's for the African descendant religions
around Brazil and what they do is basically offer her all sorts of things
the most common thing are white roses I think... or any white flowers
and there are different meanings for flowers like
red flower means love, it's a request for love, yellow is for prosperity
and white is peace... as we get closer to the short you guys might be able to see more flowers, people throwing flowers
and it's a very common thing here in Rio... I am already seeing a couple of them
tomorrow you'll see a lot more and tonight there is going to be a big thing which is what I just filmed
and then people just sell these flowers... you buy one, go to the beach and give your own to Yimaja
and hope for a better year...
someones white and yellow flowers are slowly being taken (by Yimaja)
the beach is going to be full with those...
you can find these things all over the beach...
people leaving something looking like a shrine
there's another one... yellow one... which means money.
the guys here in white are preparing for something... I haven't ever been in one of these...
I'm assuming they're digging to bury flowers and things like that...
but the common thing is little boats with a Yimaja figure
and another couple of things on it like flowers, shells and precious rocks
not too precious, but some minerals, not the most expensive kinds
and they let them drift in the water... people put candles
and all sorts of things...
the boats are much less common in Rio...
in Salvador, Bahia, which is a city in another state in Brazil is where you see these boats the most
there's also a lot of people that do all sorts of rituals on the water
you can see some fire places going on...
the sun is just about to set, let me show you guys...
look at this thing...
behind the mountain... that's what I was saying in previous videos...
but if you go back there, you guys can see that at certain areas in the city the sun is still shining
which means in this side of the city the sun already "set"
but on that side they can still see the Sun...
it was on this time that we went to the Arpoador which is right back there *points* last time...
look at the end of this beautiful day...
we are all praying very very hard that the little patch of sky without clouds
Will be tomorrow, because the prediction is this... clouds and rain.
I feel the new year vibe already... strongly. all the people, all the vendors and the different environment... it just feels
different.
there's one thing I haven't shown you guys yet...
it's this... almost every building... actually every building has it...
it's basically a place to clean your feet after the beach...
instead of going through the front area of the building, you go through the garage or back door
and clean your feet from sand...
