A further three people suspected of involvement in the horrifying knife attack that killed
around 30 people at a Chinese railway station have been arrested.
Authorities say the attack, which also wounded over 1-hundred-40 people, was carried out
by separatists from the far west region of Xinjiang.
Sohn Jung-in reports. China's Xinhua News Agency reports that the three remaining suspects
involved in the terrorist attack in the southwestern city of Kunming have been captured.
Tuesday's report, citing a statement from the Ministry of Public Security, said eight
people -- six men and two women -- led by a man identified as Abdurehim Kurban were
responsible for the stabbing spree last Saturday at the city's railway station.
Four of them were fatally shot by police at the time, while a wounded woman was captured
at the scene. Officials say at least 29 people were killed
and more than 140 wounded in the attack. Although no details have been released about
how the suspects were identified and captured, authorities in Beijing said a separatist group
from the far-western region of Xinjiang, is believed to have carried out the assault.
Xinjiang is home to the mainly Muslim Uighur minority and clashes between authorities and
the ethnic group have left scores dead over the past year.
The U.S. State Department has condemned the attack, calling it a "horrific, senseless
act of violence." Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to
severely punish the terrorists in accordance with the law.
