Hi guys, today we're going to be working on this candy cane inspired design.
I'm going to say right away that this definitely could just be done with a
striper brush,
if you have a very steady hand and are sure of your striping skills.
I am not that confident in my striping skills, and so i decided to tape it off.
So stay tuned for the tutorial, and i hope you guys like this christmas design.
Alright, so i'm starting out with a plain white base, and today i'm using
Zoya Purity.
You do want that to be completely dry, so that the tape doesn't pull up any
of the polish.
And since i don't have any striping tape, i just cut some tape in two different widths.
I just stuck it on here so that it's kind of easy to grab.
And rather than cutting each individual tiny piece,
I just cut some long strips, and then cut those into more manageable pieces.
So the trickiest part of this is really
getting the tape unstuck from your finger and sticking on to your nail.
So
since the polish is dry, you know, you can reposition it if you need to
take the whole piece off
you know, whatever you need to get that tape
in the right spot that you want it.
So, in between those two
skinny pieces of tape
we're going to leave just a little bit of white peeking through,
and
then the next piece of tape is going to be
one of the wider ones.
Next to that i'm going to
actually, turn this way. We're going to leave a wider strip of white
like that.
And i'm going to continue on
with that pattern
of two narrow and one wide
along the rest of my nails. Since this is such an awkward camera angle i'm not going to
record that part, but
like i said you can re-position the tape
as many times as necessary to get it exactly where you want.
Alright, so here i have my nails all taped up.
And it's up to you whether you want the design to be the same on each nail,
or if you want them to line up.
This way it actually lines up when you hold your hand
about like that.
And
for the next step i'm going to be using
Zoya Blaze,
which is from their Christmas collection.
It's a dark red with a little bit of
holographic shimmer to it.
And i'm basically just going to be painting over the tape.
I am going to go at
a little bit of an angle,
and just try to get in all those little
nooks.
So that everywhere the white is still showing through
it's covered
with the red.
And i'm just going to do one coat
for now,
let that dry just a little bit and then go back and do
a second coat.
So
i'm going to continue on
and do that on the rest of my nails.
And uh... sometimes i get comments that people think the fast forwarding part is
boring, so
i'm going to cut out this time and probably get comments that people wish they'd
seen it, but
i'll come back for the second coat.
So, i have the first coat complete
on both hands, i'm actually doing both hands at the same time, which is
how i normally do a manicure.
Sometimes
you know, doing one hand just so that it can be kind of a demonstration hand for
a tutorial is kind of a pain in the butt.
So, for this one i decided to do it more
like i would under normal circumstances, but
i'm just going to to continue on
doing the second coat
so that the red comes through
vibrant, and actually red, and doesn't look
like a pink when we're all done with this.
Although i suppose there are pink candy canes out there
also.
But, i'm just going to continue
all my nails
and
then i will be back and we'll be
having the moment of truth as I call it, when we take off the tape.
So, here comes the moment of truth.
I'm just going to use a pair of tweezers to have an easier grip on the tape.
And i'm going to start peeling it off,
and just kind of stick it off to the side.
And you can see
as i pull it off
that - yay! - all my edges were down.
I don't have,
at least so far,
any red bleeding into the white.
And
i have a little striped
candy cane
design.
So, i'm going to continue
to take off the rest of my nails, or take the tape off the rest of my nails i guess i
should say,
and
then i'm going to apply some top coat and i'll be back.
So,
here we have the finished product.
All the tape off of both hands, and top coat added to help smooth out the ridges.
I hope you guys enjoyed this, I hope those of you that have been asking for a
simple tutorial especially like this
because I don't think it gets too much more simple then paint, tape off a
design and paint again.
So let me know what you think of it, of course if you give it a try i'd love to
see pictures on my Facebook Fan Page,
and as always
thanks for watching =)
