The Arctic Institute of North America collection came to the University of Calgary in 1976
when the Institute itself transferred from the University of McGill to the University of Calgary
The collection is amazing in its breadth and depth
we have things in the collection that cover everything north of 60 in Canada, the
United States, Norway, Russia, Greenland in a variety of languages
English, French, Inuktituk, Russian, the Slavic, Norwegian, and Finnish languages
So when you go into the collection its like stepping back in time
we have a variety of objects in books
from children's literature, from the Ookpik series
to environmental impact assessment statements
to biographies and autobiographies of some of the earliest explorers in the North
its fascinating, you're stepping back in time, and you're stepping back into a
piece of history
