Since his foundation in 1967,
our institute has been fundamental
in the development of the most important
engineering projects of the country,
thanks to his professionals, equipments and facilities,
it gives practical and innovative solutions,
that have marked the course of the history
of the civil works in Chile.
Many ocean waves studies of the most important
harbours of Chile as Valparaiso,
San Antonio, Iquique and Talcahuano,
have allowed the capacity expansion,
optimizing the operation and designs.
The physical model study of the Mapocho River
and the stormwater drainage system
of Santiago, have allowed to improved
significantly the drainage system performance of the city.
Design of artificial beaches,
optimization of dams overload discharge,
sedimentological studies in estuaries,
water intakes and harbours studies,
are some of many contributions from the INH
to the development of our country.
Our studies have reced risk of faults of the structures
as well as, allowed significant invesnment cost saving
justifying and amortizing their cost
We are looking
to reach a national and international technological
leadership in hydrographic measurement,
instruments calibration,
physical and mathematical modeling.
Our facilities, unique in Chile,
allow us developing the most complex
hydraulic engineering studies with marine
and fluvial physical models.
strategically located in PeƱaflor,
the INH hydraulic laboratory,
has a wide availability of clean groundwater
and a great pumping capacity.
Roofed sheds,
pumping systems and pipelines,
state of the art instruments and equipments,
make our laboratory a of highest level technological center
for the development of physical models studies.
Our support areas provide us the necessary experience
for the construction of structures, instruments,
and special materials for the scale models.
Highly qualified people carry out
the complex plastic, wood and steel structures,
and the analysis and selection of sand, gravel,rocks and sediments.
High quality field measurement are fundamental
to obtain reliable results in engineering studies.
That's the reason we have developed a field work
and instrumentation area with the best equipment
and highest quality standards
to provide reliable measurements.
The Hydraulic National Institute has also instruments calibration service
of water flow instruments as:
small propeller flow meters,
inductive and ultrasonic flow meters,
Parshall flumes, etc.
that allows to measure water speeds and flows.
The pump testing bench is unique in the country
and allows to test the big pumping systems
used by the industry.
The area of engineering designs and develops
the studies with physical and mathematical models.
Here we use last generation computational programs
for the interpretation of data from hydraulic modeling
surface water flow, sea currents and
sediment transport.
The physical and mathematical models,
and our experience and prestige,
allows us to give integral and innovative solutions.
In the risks prevention area
the INH counts whit the collaboration
of the Chilean Association of Security.
It wouldn't be possible to carry out
our excellent productive work
without our highly compromised team
in the administrative and financial areas.

in an perfect interaction with the Department of Public Works and
the Government of Chile.
