Today, I will show you the recipe for Mantu
I hope you will like this recipe and try it yourselves
For this recipe, We need the following ingredients:
Beef Minced - 1.5 Lbs
Onions - 7-8 Pcs
Fresh garlic - 1 clove
Fresh Green pepper
Cilantro
Salt - As needed
Turmeric Powder
Tomato Paste
Black pepper 2-3 Tsp
Dry Chili - As needed
Coriander Powder
Dry Mint
Yogurt - 1.5 Lbs
Split yellow peas - 100G
Dumpling Wraps
There are two steps to cooking this recipe.
The first step is to cook the yellow peas.You can boil the peas but I prefer to boil and cook it with sauce.
I will start by putting the yellow peas on medium heat and let it boil and then I add the sauce
In a saucepan, add 2 Tbsp of canola oil with one onion and fry the onions
The onions are almost brown so I will add 2 pcs of garlic and mix it with the onions
Add 1/2 Tbsp of Tomato Paste
Add 1 Tsp of Turmeric powder
Add salt according to your own taste
Now, I am going to mix the boiled yellow peas with the sauce I have prepared.
Add 1 cup of water in the sauce and let it simmer.
Make sure the yellow peas dont soften too much.
For the second step, I will start with chopping the onions in a grinder
You can also use a kitchen knife for this purpose
Make sure the onions are finely chopped and not too thin.
I have also mixed some fresh peppers and garlic with the onions.
Now, add 1 tbsp of canola oil in a sauce pan and add the minced beef.
The meat is almost cooked. Add 1 Tbsp of black pepper.
Black pepper and coriander powder are the two most important ingredients of this recipe
Add 1 Tbsp of Coriander powder.
Now I am going to mix the onions I grinded earlier with the beef
Gently, Mix the onions and beef together
Make sure you mix the onions with the beef for at least 5 minutes.
I always add the salt in the last step because if I add it earlier it can liquefy the onions.
Add salt to your own preference
I will use cooking spray to spray the steamer. You can use cooking oil or spray.
Each wrap can hold almost a full spoon of filling.
Close the edges tightly and make sure all corners are sealed
This is the shape of Mantu
Preparing the wraps is straightforward. Make sure the edges are linked and sealed tight.
I have boiled some water for the steamer and now it's time to steam the mantu
I will steam the mantu for about 25-30 minutes to make sure its properly steamed
I switch the steamer pots every 15 minutes
I rotate the lower and top pot to make sure the mantu is evenly cooked
The mantu is now ready. I steamed it for total of 30 minutes. I rotated the lower pot with the top pot after 15 minutes
Now I will transfer the mantu onto a serving plate and show you what to do next.
Mix a few pcs of garlic with the yogurt and apply some yogurt on the serving plate
The rest of the yogurt goes on top of the mantu
Add chili powder if you want some spice but this is optional.
I have also added the cooked yellow split peas on top of the mantu
Add dry mint for garnishing
I like to heat a bit of oil in a skillet and pour it over the mantu
The oil is heated with 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
This is optional and its up to you whether you want to do it or not
Now I will add Fresh cilantro as garnishing
