OoOTie is Boston’s only bow tie boutique.
When I was applying to BU to get into the MBA program, we hadn’t started the company
yet.
I really wish I could have started the bow tie company earlier because then it would
have made my essays a breeze.
The bow tie is something that says, “I’m different. I’m unique.”
Oh you like the paisley?
Well let me show you the ninjas.
You know me, I wear bow ties, and I’ll tell you what I like about bow ties.
Bow ties are all about style.
Even with a simple thing such as a bow you can make various fashion statements based
on how you’re wearing it,
what you’re wearing it with.
You can see Kanye West wearing them a lot.
If you watch the ESPYS, you can definitely see the bow tie being worn by a lot of college
athletes.
It’s a good statement.
Bow ties are absolutely quirky, yeah!
I like the notion that we go, we take over bow ties;
bring them back to the people.
What’s up guys, we’re here at SoWa marketplace.
We’re checking out OoOTie Boston Bow Ties.
The iPhone app for trying on bow ties – we wanted to prove this model, that you don’t
need a website but you need an app.
And so we created this iPhone app.
The bow tie is basically the size of an iPhone screen.
So if you take the two you can, indeed, try on a bow tie.
We really used this as leverage on marketing,
I think it took us to the next level pretty quickly.
I love the OoOTie ties.
I even used an OoOTie tie when I jumped into the Charles River.
True story.
Learning to tie a bow tie is, in fact, a rite of passage,
a rite to manhood, if you will.
People come over and they just want to see, male or female, child, adult.
It’s something that they’ve always wanted to learn.
Once you start off, it’s sort of flimsy. You’re not quite getting the bow.
You end up sliding one side through one too many times, but when you finally get it for
that first time.
It’s just serene.
Bow ties are a little bit about ego tripping, but they’re also about maybe a little protest
too.
There is a culture behind it, and it’s great to know you can have people your age
approach you, discuss their experience with bow ties, and you’ll have adults that have
been wearing them since before you were born come up
and be like, “Yeah, I remember my first bow tie.”
