Promoting local purchase of food for food assistance in the African Continent. Purchase from Africans for Africa.
Joint project to support vulnerable households through local purchase initiatives. Region of Kédougou, Senegal
The first rains fall in the region of Kédougou,
...and farmers have begun their work, in order to continue with the sowing of grain.
Thanks to funding from the Brazilian government of a total of 300 million CFA francs,
1,000 families will receive support in the form of inputs, certified rice seeds and fertilizers.
Each beneficiary will receive a free package for a quarter of a hectare, which will respond to urgent needs.
The pluviometric deficit last year caused a drop in cereal production by 30%, affecting the availability of seeds.
The winter last year was very bad, we were only able to harvest one third of what was planted.
Farmers from five benefited cooperatives, welcome the support given by FAO, WFP and Brazil.
The inputs arrive in good time, before the arrival of winter.
Farmers are willing to do their share to get good yields.
We really want to profit from this opportunity.
Enjoy and have the courage to have enough rice, us as well as our children, who are in school, to live well.
We are very happy to have the help from FAO and WFP.
Producers selected will also benefit from technical and administrative support.
And to facilitate the processing of rice, each cooperative will receive a peeler.
Part of their production will be purchased and made available to school canteens
We can say that it is truly an innovative and original project.
FAO brings all the inputs necessary to support the production of rice.
And WFP comes with their resources to buy this production
and make it available to 155 school canteens in Kédougou.
In the long term, the goal is to feed the 800 000 students who attend school canteens in Senegal through local food production.
One way to support our agriculture and give them a new boost.
