an additional goal
in the PCC plan was to identify
the there was to identify the need for increasing data and information
available
for decision-making so you know I have to give credit here to the business
analysts and institutional effectiveness in academic services who have worked
extremely hard to get our data warehouse
off the ground which really provide self-serve access
to the deans in terms of data access to assist them with
course offerings and and scheduling we've also added
numerous PCC specific reports to
the data warehouse and our plan is to continue to expand and eventually make
this available to you
the department heads you've noticed a lot of change on that campus in terms of
facilities building CC was completed in fall 2013
the multi-disciplinary building known to many viewers AA and BB
will be completely fall 2014
and building GG student services
and which will also house a cafeteria will be complete late spring
2015 we are very excited about the completion of the multi-disciplinary
building it gives us
additional classroom space space for faculty
office space and
we can start to think about developing a core group of faculty
I'm who have their teaching loads at the Pacific Coast campus
in addition we will have a number of additional computer labs
in that in that building we continue to
work on a marketing increasing marketing resources to promote the development and
subsequent promotion at the Pacific Coast campus
focusing both on marketing internally and externally
we now have a PCC web page man while continually involving PCC does have a
web presence
we have developed a monthly PCC newsletter
available on the page and distributed by email we're also working with
communications and college advancement to do a piece
on student success stories in promote the programs that
can be completed at the Pacific Hills campus and this area will of course
continue to be a priority
as programs grow and new programs are created
I might also like to take a few moments to share with you some of the events
that have taken place on campus
you've just heard about numerous student events
student life events there on november
in November at the ATP office hosted an event
invited numerous community leaders and entrepreneurs to meet with students it
was a wonderfully meant they had an opportunity
to share a little bit about out their own success stories
k only mom you see her its
the middle picture she's wearing a green dress their
she's a cambodian background she was invited to the campus
in September to talk about her documentary River changes course
which one the world cinema documentary award at the sundance
Film Festival the sacred answers a bank or
and the musical group it was our first time in the United States for also here
in the fall Anna they did a performance at the
Mark Twain library in so there was a lot of involvement from me
from the College in of course we continue those efforts with
community outreach and the college community collaboration
in line with somebody efforts
in student life and their House of Blues
event the library at the Pacific Coast campus has
put a display on up like history we've also created a number
online technology multimedia live guides for instructors to use we invite you to
to come and take a look I'll
I'll share with you a couple of events going on in horticulture
they built a butterfly house this will be used
with the honor biology students at the campus for special project
other construction class is just finished their edible garden display
and several horticulture students will have the opportunity to present
other represent the horticulture program and Long Beach City College at the
world's largest horticultural fair
the Qing Dao international horticultural exposition in China
and that happens and April
the library is currently working
on a number and videos we've just posted them to
you too teaser videos in both Spanish
and English I'm really on efforts to promote student success and to
contribute to efforts
and helping to close the achievement gap among minority students
Tom really helping them to become much more information literate
and to acquire information competency skills
our next video will be on using library databases
and as I said we hope that you will take the time to view them on
on YouTube Student Success Center at PCC now as a Facebook page
linked to the college page they've logged over 18,000
student face to face hours at the Success Center
so there is a lot of activity going on at PCC
much more than I can present here tonight
com in closing I would just say that PCC has had
some challenging times as we're all aware but we have turned a corner and
there are some real excitement and energy
at the Pacific Coast campus about what is currently happening
the changes that are taking place we have had numerous faculty and staff
events
also including holiday celebrations in our Thanksgiving lunch
with a great turnout really a true reflection
the community that the Pacific Coast campus continues to be
and finally I'd like to thank the board members for attending our events it's
been really nice to see you there
and for continually supporting our efforts
at the campus within the community and our continued initiatives at the Pacific
Pacific Coast campus that concludes my report
i'm happy to answer any questions that you may help
members the board thank you very much for
wheelchair in as interesting like to see it was
excellent report and I i will. wish we heard more about the PCC campus
very good job thank you thank you yeah I when a column
Christy Clark's sentiment I think it's a
a wonderful campus it in my district in a appreciate other 140 you doing there
and keep it
thank you at the I know it's challenging
won the challenge is a reality temporary facilities
modules portals whatever we call those living through construction is never
easy
whether you're doing something on houseplants something activists
and I know that's that's gonna cause some people's
difficulty but as the photographs
demonstrated what's eventually landed be there at PCC is
outstanding no one will ever confuse it with a one-time
Hamilton junior high school as part of our mission
high school district started so I'm I'm really pleased that
to see all the changes and that was taking place here it's really impressive
what's going on
and I appreciate all the information as far as for Tia demographic breakdown who
are potential students are in
to me that campus has such a potential upswing on how it's going to service the
communities so
I'm real proud what's taking place at that campus and what's going on
I in a few years I think it's once the construction is completed
I think Iran's can be very impressed so thank you for the hard work as well
trustee auto I
congratulate you on an excellent report to me know
a.m. E if you go into the new classrooms
new science classrooms it's just astonishing to see the transformation
the campus i mean that that
reflects that to me and and how well poised we r
with the new construction Outback for
career technical education programs when we redid the
Child Development Center that really became an oasis for
that work and those early childhood education workers become so important in
California
we're so well poised to do
and to continue agree great job in that area so
very pleased to see the progress you you forget
how much goes on there because did because the construction you just take
nothing can
that to to rate occupation thank you
cherry consistent rusty yes
I also kinda want to a call when my fellow trustees hand
seen a what I think you are so wonderful report
he clears Lee am shows and a really appreciated that
than usual an of the demographics
at PCC because their really unique
and also I am I want to thank you and I want to
and knowledge your work an hearing their border
because you have been someone that have open
dollars so by or 12 a few of these for every truck a.m.
for me and for every oh they're student leader
at BCC is so I really want to thank you for that
in and wanted to use this opportunity to do that
so thank you very much thank you
alright
our next time college transfer economic development there's no I don't know
report
correct and then we're now to reports communications
academic said Press no I'm
side thank you 710 president
yes the a couple
love items first serve all I think it's a good segue
from I mean is report particularly highlighting the demographics in the
Pacific Coast campus to some
really great news I think for our students
a.m. we recently became part
above the national launch the dream .us
we were one of only two institutions in California
partner with Cal State Long Beach they became part
love this i'm new I am scholarship fund
national scholarship fund focused on undocumented students
I we have begun taking applications and thanks to doctor pearson
his team Alicia crazy inga a
for putting this together so quickly but we have already begun to take
applications
from our students I am the
can qualify for up to twenty five thousand dollars for that
total cost to receive in a bachelor's degree so
the reason we were partner with Cal State Long Beach the work that we do
in moving students from this institution
to Cal State Long Beach and having them finish so
on the effort is led by Don Graham the former
owner love washington Post
and I'm happy to say that we are one other key partners in California
and you'll be hearing more as time goes on this too
I'm a student supply missions get aid and and what happens to them
um couple other
good pieces of news first of all i think is our first meeting since
we began the spring semester so I want to welcome everybody back
for the spring semester know all the students are are knee-deep in there
work already so welcome back I am
we also received another been a good news I think
it's telling love the a its testament to the work that the trustees have done in
and I need just take a moment to highlight it because
I am every time we issue bonds
I am the rating agencies that
rate from the financial strength over
institution for the investors rates s
on the financial strength ok this institution
and i'm happy to say that both Moody's Investors Service
and a and
Standard & Poor's I gave us
AA rating once again and
just a firm's worked at the trustees have done to ensure that this
institution has a very firm
for financial
I'm outlook so I think it's worth
noting that particularly coming through these very difficult
Financial Times I am a couple other
I am updates I'm happy to report that
them we now have coffee Monday's
I'm where as where the recommendations from the collegiality morale
workgroup was to try and bring people together around coffee so we are now
sponsoring coffee Monday's
both campuses both in the morning in the evening
to try and give our faculty and staff for another opportunity to
to me dance each other and agreed each other and to continue to build
connections I am finally I have
just a quick report and we'll have a much more
I'm comprehensive report a baby while it too much time pass
I'm we had a very successful winter intersession
I am we had about a 97 percent feel radovan
our classes but I also wanted to report
essence a lot of people were interested on the extension
program I'm as many you know we offered six courses we
went 5 some mated
we had to cancel one because of a lack of enrollment
but I but 113 students attended
our demographic breakdown was very similar to our demographic breakdown in
all other terms so we served the same types students that we always serve
which I know is a point of concern from some
and another point of concern which I know many have raised some who have
visited this
boardroom I am I'm happy to report that 57 percent of the students
that took advantage of these courses were border governor feel terrible
way for students or Lowes income students in this compares to you
about 62 percent normally am
attend courses are released in the fall of 2013
so it's very similar demographic so I wanna
congratulate the foundation limited culture and Asia for making
I'm aid available to all students who attended our courses
will have a much a more comprehensive breakdown
at a future meeting but I I know several board members had that question
in mind so I won't release give you that update
and that's all I have thank you still trustee
thank you good afternoon member so the BART preceded not clear members of the
community
so I want to start by thinking the bar for the opportunity again to allow me to
go to
they lame national legislative some meaty Washington DC
I really appreciate it and it was really
and in really interesting
I I also want to thank president now Candice Michelle
and
him and member plaque for all that by
is that I received during this conference and for allowing me to go
with them
to visit I where congress their sons
and we had the opportunity to be seated and a congress
and the staff members congresswoman in the centres
and wheat get to talk but to talk to
congressman Alan Lowenthal am doing his be a seat
and I year at what Cade fairest
for a
typo fixed except four-day ESL students
and other students that need remediation courses
to days six-year period for failing financial aids
I'm because basically
you see the students its really hard for them to learn
English in a short period of time
and the sizzling was that requires
maybe more than three years to learn maybe for
and for all their students even more song I'm
by the time we prepare them to be able to go
to to be in at college-level
any they financially is done and
resisted is usually have and though Inc com
and is really hard for them to pay it
out of the pocket um and outsole
I E and I get to talk to
advocate area be more for more
resources for the dreamers and 4d undocumented students
i think is important and for to have a quality
for everybody in the school for every student so what i'm looking for them to
be able to
gate fair financial fidel ons
and to be able to participate in the Federal Work Study
scenes for DC students in particular is really hard
to find jobs may be outside of the school
um also wanted to think person okay because they know that
we are gonna have week kind of had an informal conversation
and then we are going to be word
keen to see how locally we cool help
this is a student so I really appreciate that
saw
and I really sure um I
me and everyone to comment on
you was also in they intercession
programs now bad im
we have a start that conversation on their summer courses
on recently I was redeem I reported
Anne is call be big gene
their higher education divide by dysentery
foundation and then I
want to highlight and I'm gonna quoted
fired of the switchboard when talking about it could hear
see stem some United
to add I'm "I united to address the fundamental change
the docs force believe that we must do much more than just
chair and replicate base practices of successful community colleges
as valuable an important as doing some
yes you know the church in addition
we need to confront head on the growing stratification and separation
between economic and racial groups in higher education
with two assaults in a system that educates
does this dude is with great is needs apart from our
advantages students and does so
with fewer resources wide
write some different station between two and four
your institution use appropriate I read it to tell your system
which offer Lido foot 3dtv between levels
and state and then to educate defriend income
and ratio and in unique group is different
in different settings is neither inevitable
know this I am bow Nardin the evidence suggests
particularly if you see it to be sure
they re did not two-tier system how many lower bowl
theaters the US system a community colleges
I rose a separate and distant
from their traditional four-year system to Sayre
to see 47 addresses departed access to higher location
to meet the special needs of communities for vocational training
life lot lifelong let learning and to provide
and effecient low-cost means of 82 Kb
is students in the first to your stuff godless
unlike many four-year institutions Community College
generally did not imposes strict entrance
requirements and are up into our
so with desist a min I would like ***
the bar to reconsidered it in
the position for the upcoming
somewhere station
lastly om
I think URL receive my case
yeah thank you so
I'll I would like to s peak and
again I N web
day one dollar repressing patient PES
and I E predicted um
there what the deal yes and
in addition the boats at these mio Wesco is sponsored by a senator lott up
and also I and in the pocket
I E II political p above the mean it's
all floods your cabinet where
we decided to support the implementation of the one dollar a person that they
shouldn't be
an also I attach today pocket
on their assaults for on the elections that we had
where the students approved a one dollar representation p
these dollar representational fiiiiine
whale highly mini feed the students
leaders and in LAC and PCC campus
because these will give us the resources to
go to conference
so sad the General Assembly for the California Community College
Association office am sorry this place and at the California Community Colleges
and for their trainin for us to be able to
bear I am I where
and I where input and to better
their presentation that we give to the students along the City College
on we approved a one dollar representation the
bad actually baby I'll allowed us to charge
two dollars I N one of these dot being at least two dollars
will go do that 32 their students in at the California Community Colleges
also for representation I'm I just wasn't for me for the meeting that we
are gonna put the US
and UNIX median so
I we are highly encouraged the board to go through the documents
and to approved the use
search important movement for as
and
an as a student said Long Beach City College that it on my two-part thank you
very much
thank you paper trustees
at this time cue
Cherokee as trustee Ron I want to our
acknowledge the wonderful program
free program that president spurt and put together during the year
State College at the end of July except for a minor for par here and there
it went very well I call it by ear but
for some it wasn't I went very well
a also during the the
the morning oh that that event so well as trustees had an opportunity to speak
to the
incoming leadership
for the student HP Association it was a wonderful opportunity
for the board members to share some of their experiences in
in leadership and in their development as a Wii have evolved and grown into Rd
should position to know how we got there in
share a little bit of ourselves our personal experiences that the
in Summit this is a very similar to what they're doing especially in
when it comes to me a so I mean I I think it was a very good program that
that was very well done as well
I hope that we are able to do that again sometime
it's important for the students to meet the trustees
teen to get them to know dole them in a more personal
basis because it prohibits humanizes
trustees to a certain extent you know we we see you back here behind today's
and we don't always get the opportunity to go out there
and speak with that the students on a one to one basis get to share
experiences
and this obviously where an event or to programmer or in a classroom
so I I welcome that opportunity I want to thank
ir on sorry
always always forget needs but the beautiful a dealer
blonde you up
*** Connie
course tiny to you sorry in Syria in a quiet lately the beautiful and wondering
yet its age I just added another 0 this past year so you know as
as 0 go 0 main goals as well but
it was it was a good program and I hope that you do it again
and I would certainly welcome the opportunity to to go before the student
again and share my
my background as well that'll it's at this point they keep
thank you other board members your DIY I want to acknowledge the same thing that
the fact they have the opportunity to speak to the
registered representatives it was very good to have the opportunity
to talk to them answer questions and
so I would appreciate a walk another obtain the same a car's I think was
beneficial for all parties
and also as trustee Ron stated see the college
I believe that was probably the largest one that we've had
in the years that this has take place the college
and very successful and a lot really positive things to talk about
and hopefully I I'm by that more optimism
for the future with the the funny steady california's that always helps
as well but great event excellent job
and again thank you for the uptake with the to come and speak before that
meeting is
before that much as well there in two forms:
this time not have no
future reports to list this time map security you have
sorry trust him a request for future port
now that we have our new teen octa would love to him
for him to want to get acclimated and gets the lay of the land to
perhaps you could come back with us and share his operations as far as
where he sees we the direction we are taking on going in what direction
perhaps a
he could share his is vision for the city programs here
City College so perhaps or something during the next we can do that
the next several months welcome curriculum sickles
