another Republican has changed his mind on medical marijuana after a family
member needed
this is an thing progress and Wyoming state senator Bruce burns is a
Republican told a local radio station about his uncle's final days
while he was dying of lung cancer saying thirty years ago the chemotherapy was
quite a bit rougher than it is now
we provided him with some marijuana he ended up gaining fifteen pounds before
he passed away and was quite a bit more comfortable
now senator burns supports legalizing marijuana
for medical use this is increasingly common sixty percent of Americans favor
allowing doctors
to prescribe marijuana based on a poll conducted in June 8 2013
I have to tell you Louis this is great it's good that
that senator burns sees this but what happened
empathy why can't why do you have to experience something like this are seats
someone who's close to you experience it
to realize that it makes sense why couldn't you just imagine say hold on
if I had an on-call who had these issues
with the chemotherapy and he would be helped by medical marijuana
that seems good maybe we should legalize it I don't understand why it needs to
happen to you before you can imagine what it would be like
it's all about his personality type it's all in his brain we've talked about this
before this
this type of person I guess you could say I people like bruce birds tend to
have a lack of empathy
they tend not to look at at the bigger picture they tend not to
I do important research based on these topics they tend to just have the
convictions and and stick your tongue firmly until of course
something like this happens to someone very close to them until they have
anecdotal evidence are up the you know contrary to what they believe
and that's actually interesting anecdotal evidence which normally we
dismiss when evaluating policies are what make sense and what doesn't make
sense
put aside all the studies put aside all the evidence put aside what goes on in
other countries and medical research at cetera
with some of these conservatives need is
anecdotal evidence that most people would say we shouldn't care about the
anecdotal
we should care about the broader bigger picture
it's amazing sometimes what it takes to turn someone around
you know I would say if if you are listening to this program and you have
ultra conservative parents who hate marijuana
and you smoke irregularly and always have been go tell them
say you know what I've been doing this for a very long time in it
it has had no negative affect my life they are well
hope assuming that it hasn't yet seeming as in
