Hello! Welcome to Maude's Two-Minute Meddlings. A series of tips for seniors and the people
who love them. Today, I'm going to explore an issue that many people avoid talking about:
Assisted Living. We all want to live in our own homes for as long as possible. But if
you're starting to have difficulty with every day activities and getting out to see friends,
assisted living can be an excellent choice. And for those of you who still think assisted living
means being confined to an institutional bed in a nursing home, well, I've got good news
for you. Today's assisted living communities are places where you'll have your own apartment.
You'll eat restaurant-style meals in a beautiful dining room and have the opportunity to engage
in a wide variety of activities. Including: Book clubs and Bingo, game nights and Bingo,
dances and Bingo. Even outings to local museums, theaters, and restaurants... Oh, and Bingo!
The best way to find the community that's right for you is to visit the community in
person. Give yourself lots of time and make sure to have a meal there. Does it feel homey
to you? Does the community offer activities you're interested in? Do the residents look
happy? Is the staff attentive and do they know each person by name? Do they give you
specifics on how you're particular care needs will be met? By spending time there, you'll
get a good feel for all of these things. So with some thorough research, you'll find a
place you'll be proud to call home. Thanks for tuning in and watch for more of my two-minute
meddlings at emeritus.com
