Hello everyone and welcome to the video presentation of our game Contrivance.
While the introduction movie is playing I'll tell you what this game is about.
You play as S.A.M., the little working robot you see there
You got abandoned in a steel recycling factory and now it's your job to find upgrades that
are laying around in the factory and that are going to help you overcome difficulties
and solve puzzles.
Right now you see the intro screen and soon we will start the game.
The level you're about to see - soon you'll get an overview -
is the third level of our game and you have already found some upgrades which you'll
see next.
We're going to the start of the level and there he is.
Okay, the first upgrade you see here, which is equipped by sam,
is the pogo stick, which we can use to jump around and get a certain height with.
Right now a puzzle is being solved where some boxes have to be moved around
these boxes can be moved because S.A.M. already found a push arm as well in the previous levels.
You can also see that the interactivity with the level is shown by a yellow exclamation mark
We're trying to reach those nice sparkling
boots up there and therefore we have to move around some boxes.
All controls and physics in the game are custom programmed, so adjustments are still possible.
Yes, okay, we almost reached the magnet boots the signs are also showing you where to go.
Here we see you get a tutorial as soon as you take a new upgrade.
This is a notification you have found magnet boots and the tutorial.
We also saw the functionality of the HUD, which can be found on the top of the screen.
we can use it easily to switch real time between several upgrades.
Every upgrade also has it's advantages and disadvantages.
As you can see the magnet boots are very useful to walk on pipes
but they're way too slow for normal walking.
But ofcourse if you have to hang upside down somewhere in the level, they're very useful.
Allright, we're going to switch to our pogo stick real quick to get a bit further
And again we have pipes, so we're going to switch to the magnet boots again.
Okay, maybe a quick remark that all content in our game is custom made
we didn't use anything from the UDK database or mesh base, but made everything custom.
Maybe just the steam shader but I believe we also had to adjust that one as well.
There's also 3D sound, like when you pass near the steam the sounds get louder.
Here we see a scripted event. There's again interaction with the level so
the exclamation mark appears.
Good the bridge went down and we're going to try to jump across
Yep, okay, so that's not going to work at all, so we're going to have to find other tactics.
We know from the first level we can go very fast with the wheel upgrade.
So we'll use this one.
Okay, right now we see we're on a labyrinth-like part of the level.
You use the wheel,
The advantage of the wheel is that you can go fast with it, and access several surfaces
that don't allow other upgrades, as you can see shown by the hud.
Okay, and here we've reached the end of our demo.
All puzzles are solved, we reach the door again a scripted event which we can activate
And we can go to the next room -which still has to be made-
And when S.A.M. has finished dancing... Okay, so thank you for watching, and hopefully
we'll be back soon with more.
