let's do a quick review, of what we've learned so far, in this LibreOffice Base series
in video one
we created a libra office database
then we created a table in design view
and we added data
into that table
by typing it in
in video 2
we created tabled by using the table wizard
to create our table
and in video three, we made a copy, of the database we created
in video 2
and then we went to that calc file
selected all the data
copied and pasted it
into that table
Today it we're going to create a table
from the information in our calc file
The first thing we're going to do
is create a new database file
We want to creating new database
we are not going to register this one
yes, we are going to open this one for editing
and we're going to call this one
ODB
04-employees
click save
this takes us to our empty database
in our calc file, we have the same calc file that we've been using so far, only i've
removed all the bold out of this calc file
going to select all the data
copy it
and under "tables" i'm going to right click and paste
we want to give this a table name
we'll call this employees
and we want a copy the definition and the data
if we wanted to
create an empty table, we would select just definition, but we wanna create the
table and the definition and fill it the same time
we want to use our first line
as column names
and we want to create a primary key
we''l call this
employee-ID
clicking next
we want all the columns in the same order
so, I'm hitting the double arrow
going to next
we see that the employee-ID is already given the key
our "Last name" we want to make this one
required
and we might also noticed that the length here is two fifty five
when we creator table design view
are length was one hundred
and when we used the table wizard
the length was 50
so you might want to keep that in mind when you're creating your tables that
the default link may be different depending on how you create that people
255 is OK because we're using VARCHAR, that will cut off all the
unneeded data
firstname we want to make this one required
gender we want to make this one fixed
just as we've done before... text
6
start date we want to make this a date
end date we wanna make this one a date
and i think that all the rest are OK
so let's create are table
double clicking to open that up
shows us, All our data is in the table
none of it is bold
looks good
the only odd thing about it, or different thing than our previous tutorial is our
employee-id starts with one
and goes to 30, instead of zero to twenty nine
Just keep in mind, so you don't go crazy looking for a missing record
when we edit the table
looking at our employee-ID the autovalue is set to NO we want to
change this to yes
even though it auto-filled
our auto value was sent to No
We want to save the changes
and, believe it or not, we still have one
more way
of creating a table, from our calc file
and this is probably the easiest way, nothing is selected
i'm just going to ground the tab here at the bottom
drag it over
and paste it in the tables.
it brings up that same dialogue box we're going to call this one
employees from tab
we're going to copy over at the definition and the data again
We are going to use the first line
as column names and we're going to create our primary key
as employee-ID
selecting all the data
next
we already have our key
this one we want
required
firstname required
gender fixed
six
start date is a date
end date as a date
and the rest is good
let's create the table
double-clicking to open - start with one just like our previous example
all the data looks good
I want to edit this table, to see how our Key looks
autovalues is no we want to change that to Yes... Save
so there we have a couple ways to create our tables right from pour calc file
