So this is a question from ARXD who asked, "Do you think it's possible in the near future
to expand human memory with a chip or event better preload information or even skills?"
I think what we know can be done at the moment is with electrodes you can get memories recorded,
literally apply signals and then "Hey, I remember when I was a young boy and so on" but it's
a little bit random if you like because we don't really understand yet what memories
are. I don't think we will have to in order to achieve that. Very quick answer is, I think
it will be possible. Firstly to record memories in some way maybe need to understand how to
play them back appropriately and so on but certainly to change memories I think that
won't take us too long with experimentation to do that. With various neurological problems
such as schizophrenia I think that there is quite a good reason to play around with memories,
to actually help people overcome particular ways that the brain is thinking and because
it's thinking in that way we need to change it. So I think the medical reasons for changing
that area of technology means we won't actually necessarily understand what memories are but
we will be able to play around with them.
