Good evening and thank you for tuning in, to Team 3 News.
I'm Brad Goodman.
Before we get into tonight's topic I'd like to address a few phone calls we've
received about last night's topic
rest assured people
you cannot fall ill
from using a machine infected with a computer virus
tonight we will explore the future of mobile computing
historically speaking Laptops reign supreme with their processing power
and portable design. However Tablet PC's are sweeping the nation
and taking over the globe.
A Tablet PC is a small usually lightweight portable personal computer,
has many uses across a wide variety of age groups and multiple industries.
It was originally a project that started in Apple Laboratories back in nineteen eighty nine.
the first Tablet PC that arose from this project was named Newton
and it hit the market in nineteen ninety three
Newton was so far ahead of its time that it was not well received and it was all but forgotten
a few years later Microsoft introduced a special operating system named Windows XP
Tablet PC Edition, say that five times fast.
This came about in two thousand one,
this operating system was designed for a touchscreen with handwriting support
Microsoft was also credited with coining the phrase Tablet PC
as this was the first time it was used
until two thousand ten the Tablet project was nothing more than
a prototype in theory
the real breakthrough came
when apple reentered the picture and released its first tablet called iPad
a comparison of Tablet PC's back in two thousand eleven
showed that iPad had the largest share and it is believed that it will hold its position
with the addition of iPad 2
which hit markets back in March
Laptops were once toted as being the portable computer but Tablets are quickly taking
over that title
data shows that Tablets have become wildly popular due to the many functions
and applications that are available, as well as their overall size and weight
nearly a year after apple released the iPad research has shown that almost
eleven percent of american adults own a Tablet pc
however this number is expected to change
as more Tablets are being released at more affordable prices
out of those that own Tablets seventy seven percent say they use their Tablet daily
almost half use their Tablets to read the news and nearly sixty seven percent choose to use
their Tablets to surf the web
if battery life is important to you, you'll discover that Tablets outlast many laptops as
laptops last only for a few hours if they're not plugged into a nearby outlet
if you have an iPad
you're looking at up to twelve point five hours of battery life
more affordable Tablets such as the Kindle Fire and Motorola Xoom
last up to six point seven and nine point three hours respectively
showing that affordability does not always equal more power.
for people constantly on the go portability is the main concern
Laptops can be quite cumbersome
with their bulky frames and power cords getting in the way not to mention needing
an entirely separate bag to carry it and it's peripherals
most Tablets have a small lightweight design that allow them to fit comfortably
in a purse or briefcase
with room left over for other essentials
the Kindle Fire is relatively small coming in at seven inches weighing
fourteen point six ounces
the popular iPad 2 and iPad 3 which are best known for having larger screens
weigh one point three three pounds and one point four four pounds respectively
they are both nine point seven inches long
and the heaviest of this bunch is the Motorola Xooom
at ten inches long weighing one point six one pounds
many technology forecasts indicate that Tablet PC's are a booming market
it is looked to as a crucial platform for future revenue streams
it is easy to see why many analysts continually predict that the iPad
will surpass all non-Apple Tablet products in the years to come
the iPad
is one of the most popular Tablets on the market today its sales are expected to
quadruple from two thousand eleven to two thousand sixteen
a number of other Tablet manufacturers such as Samsung
and others like it, are expected to
have their sales rise nearly seven fold
all right good girl, come here, come here
all right Dakota
we have a Tablet and a Laptop
what do you like? do you like Laptop or Tablet?
do you like the Laptop or Tablet?
give tap
if you like Laptop or Tablet. huh? give me a tap, give me a tap
oh, you like the Tablet don't you.
Oh you do, alright.
so there you have it, even dogs choose Tablets over Laptops
they're smaller, lighter
and they're the future of mobile computing
on behalf of everyone here at Team 3 News i'd like to thank you for tuning
in and have a great night
