General Chat Introduction to Destiny
Hello, my name is Sibcoe, welcome to another episode of "General Chat," the show where
we bring you juicy gossip from the gaming underworld, and headlines news from the best
and brightest. Today we are introducing "Destiny," the exciting new project from Bungie, creators
of the Halo series, and Activision.
Bungie has finally revealed a few snippets of information about the project, in the form
of a video and some screenshots. They are incredibly compelling, as you can see in the
backgrund. The images you are seeing are from concept art of the game, Destiny from Bungie,
and look beautiful.
Of course, we know the final game may not look so amazing, but if we make a few assumptions
along the way, we will find it may look close.
The story tells of a golden age, ushered in by an entity known only as The Traveler. In
the face of extinction from an aggressive alien race or hostile force, The Traveler
saved mankind, by sacrificing itself. It apepars as a giant white sphere floating over the
Earth.
The survivors decided to build a new city beneath the traveler, and to begin exploring
the old world again. This is where the meat of the game likely comes from, the conflict
to expeience, and a world to save, the wild lands. Wild creatures and enemies infest these
wild lands, and of course, as a Guardian of the City you will venture out to defend it
from these enemies and reclaim it.
This will be an always online universe, or the evolution of the MMO we know today, and
what's more it will be an action game. Halo online anyone? it does have some overtones.
Customizable weapons, boss encounters, gear, vehicles, etc all await you in Destiny, as
does a massive amount of promised FPS gameplay, coop, multiplayer, and social systems. Just
how this will be architected is not clear.
Bungie is realy committing their whole company to this project, taking a huge risk, but on
the back of massive success. How to take all of this imagination, creativity, and potential,
and package it into a playable format that creates an amazing interactive experience,
that is the crux of the challange ahead of Bungie. I really can't think of a better project
for the to work on.
A caveat to this exciting news is that while pre-orders are already available, with the
expected perks of early order, the game is so far only available for pre-order on XBox
and Playstation. Will it be a XBox 720/PS4 title? Let's wait and see. Bungie have released
a trailer in the form of a ViDoc video which will be linked here to the trailers playlist.
Enjoy.
