(Intro Upbeat Music)
Hey everybody.
My name is Emily and this is Andrew and welcome to the
new season of the Longwood Show.
Today we are going to take a look...
Actually I really want to know what you did this summer Andrew.
Really? Well it was a pretty good summer in June I got my...
My summer was great do you want to know what I did in June?
A lot of stuff and it was a probably better than what you did. Just saying.
But we are not here to talk about what you did this summer, we are actually here
to introduce some new things we have been doing on the Longwood Show right?
One of the first things we did was freshmen tips and laundry to dos.
You know who did that?
Sarah and Logan did so lets go watch that.
Reflecting on my freshman year one of my friends thought it would be a good idea
to put some noodles in the microwave without any water.
The sad result? It caught on fire and the police and fire department were called to the scene.
What we have in front of you here are some things that you may or may not find
inside a dorm room.
Like sunglasses. You are not going to want to put sunglasses inside a mircowave.
It would just be bad for everybody.
Cellphone- you're going to want to keep in touch with your new friends
so just put that inside of your pocket.
Right here, a big huge can of marinara sauce.
If you can find a use and actually want to put it in the microwave then you
should probably put it in something microwavably safe first and then go to town.
Right here, some chef boy-a-dee raviolli bowls.
Delicious, but with a catch inside... here is metal so you are going to want to
remove that and put the top back on to make it microwavably safe.
You have to watch out for it too - it might get a little hot in the end.
Some popcorn... just unwrap it and then pop it in the microwave for the popcorn
setting or a couple seconds and then it will be good to go.
Poptarts- one thing that is different about college is there is no toaster so if
you want to heat them up like mom does at home, what you're going to want to do is
unwrap them out of this microwaveably unsafe foil. You usually want to put it on a
plate or something but this seems pretty clean.
Pop them in there and you're good to go.
My freshman year i used to go home every weekend to wash my clothes but now
that's all changed...
I just buy new ones.
The first thing you are going to need to do your laundry is of course dirty
clothes some laundry detergent and some quarters.
Now to save money on my new wardrobe im just going to wash all my clothes
together darks and lights it doesnt matter..
you should probably seperate those let me help.
See this is green, and this is pink and you should probably do those in the
washer?
This is the washer.
No thats the dryer.
The next step is to add your laundry detergent now it really doesnt matter how
much you use..
Yeah you spend like $5 on this a week.
yeah you probably want to just fill it in the measuring cup.
so i just put it in here.
umm well there is a drawer for that ohhh so i just pour it in here and thats how
you do laundry.
Do you remember the first time you actually had to do laundry?
yeah actually i had to do it here in Curry which was my first time- I did it in
the Cunninghams and it was awesome.
I really like doing my own laundry now.
Because you feel so independent.
Cause you get to put the quarters in and the detergent it and its really cool.
Next up...
we actually have Tara who went to Rock the Block which was a party put on by
Longwood and the town of Farmville with a lot of local bussinesses and an 80s
cover band and it was really cool.
So lets go to that and see what students had to say about it.
(Upbeat music)
We are here hanging out enjoying this Rock the Block party which
is really awesome.
So what made you come out here today?
Well I heard there was going to be lots of free stuff and I am a college student
so I like free things.
So what brought you out to Rock the Block.
Well we figured we would come share our wealth hand out some literature and
telling people about us and getting to know our neighbors as well.
Have you had a pretty good response from the community?
Yes we have.
(music)
So whats your name?
Quiznos cup?
Yup thats it.
Are you having fun?
I always have fun if you can see a smile on the outside theres always a bigger
one inside.
(music)
So what do you think about Rock the Block?
I think it was a really good idea to bring all these people together.
(music)
What do you think about the community coming out to join with Longwood?
I think this is a really awesome way to build better relationships between
Longwood and the Farmville Community.
That was so much fun.
I had such a good time.
I got a free frisbee.
Really?
It was awesome.
Well, that's kinda all we havefor this episode of the Longwood Show.
Thanks for stopping by.
I mean, you haven'treally said anything all episode.
I've been trying since the first -
I basically hand fed you chances.
