A burn PRODUCTION
This is burn RESIDENCY, the biggest global DJ competition.
18 young DJs are given a once-in-a-lifetime chance
to follow their passion and win a DJ residency on Ibiza.
This is their chance of a lifetime.
This is burn RESIDENCY.
Previously on burn RESIDENCY:
The DJs had to select a track for the sunset to be judged by Alan,
the owner and promoter from residency club, Café Mambo.
The winner gets to DJ that day for the sunset at Café Mambo.
If I could choose, it would definitely be Mambo Café.
And the winner of this challenge, making it to the top final round is...
Mano Andrei.
Now, DJ Mano Andrei gets to show off his skills
at one of the island's most sought-after DJ slots:
the sunset at Café Mambo.
I'm very excited, I mean, it's a beautiful place,
and I can't wait to play some tracks for the sunset.
I have no hard feelings, I'm not, like, down about it.
I gained a lot of knowledge so I'm just gonna continue, do my thing.
Well I felt very happy,
I mean it's a unique opportunity to play here at Mambo.
It's a legendary place in Ibiza,
and it was really, really great.
I felt Mano Andrei did a very good job.
He actually played very, very smooth and deep house music.
But, there were differing opinions on Mano's performance.
He said that, like, it was emotional,
but for me it was no emotion.
That was difficult.
And no connection with the sun down and the mood.
Well, actually I wanted to play myself, but the second best was him.
He missed the moment in general,
just waiting to push the button.
Surprisingly, even Mano himself has his doubts
on being a resident DJ at Café Mambo.
The kind of thing that I don't like is there are some guests
that are a little more commercial
and I can't really fit in here so well.
Well if I had the choice, I think I would pick Sankeys.
Valentino is not impressed with Mano Andrei's outspoken opinion.
That's not the right attitude to make it to the next level.
It's things like this, for example, which basically hands
a 10-year path on a platter to the lucky winners.
He is too young.
After all the controversy from last night, the DJs have to stay focused.
The contestants have to remix a track from Maceo Plex,
and the deadline is coming ever closer.
Time to work on your remix.
We're gonna jump into the Mambo studio.
We've been working with Edu Imbernon
the whole morning here in the studio at Mambo,
and Edu is known for being one of the best remixers
in the world right now.
Oh but the tiki drum is a,
it has a reverberage too high.
Yeah.
The burn RESIDENCY is the only program out there
that gives real opportunities to the DJs.
Networking, production, mixing skills,
So they can really focus on the important thing: creativity.
Next one, please.
It's my first production ever.
Your first production ever, huh? Yeah.
My remix is really not going so great, and it's really, like "aaggghh".
Some of them are too ambitious, I think.
From my experience in the music industry,
when you don't let things flow
and when you don't really get loose
and have this ability to get loose at some point,
you don't really get that creative.
Do what you do, do your own style,
don't try to copy somebody.
That's the most important thing.
Remix deadline is five o'clock today.
Five o'clock.
They will have to have now the final product
in a couple of hours so the pressure is definitely on.
To have a successful career in DJ-ing,
the contestants all have to be able to DJ and produce their own tracks.
But after days of effort, some of them are still finding it a struggle.
I don't think I will be finished.
I feel like I need two more days at least.
I was speaking to the Norwegian girl,
she said that she doesn't have a remix, and I think that
she should of course work harder.
DJ Vari Loves goes to break the news to Valentino
that she won't be able to hand in a remix.
How has this challenge been for you?
I didn't know how to produce.
And I didn't have time to learn that so quickly.
It's a pity, you know?
It is.
Because you won't have the opportunity to remix Maceo Plex.
She could have tried at least to hand in something acceptable.
Now, the hand-in time is drawing ever closer.
Lose the focus, and maybe lose the final chance.
Coming up, the DJs rush to meet the deadline for the remix challenge.
Plus, a nerve-wracking chat with David,
to decide the finalist for Sankey's Ibiza.
Can Miss Soulfly keep her position as David's favorite?
They seemed a lot more well-versed.
They're coming with very good answers.
