We're back on the site where we hunt every year with success. A beautiful meadow near the town and easily accessible.
As usual Thierry will start on opening day. For me, and as we shall see later I'll try another place and a tree-stand.
Preparation is always important. We put apples and installing a camera to see if animals go by.
And it happens!
It happens almost every time. That's a good thing.
It was decided not to shoot the female because one of three young still seems small.
And of course the camera also shoots us when we come back to apples.
The deer have competition for apples. Here we have a beautiful family of wild turkeys.
There are a dozen birds.
They are extremely shy birds that are difficult to approach. But on the lookout you can see them very closely.
This is the first time I see turkeys and deer all over the apples! No wonder I often had to put apples!
The conditions are there for hunting. So here we go!
The tent has big advantages over the tree-stand: - better comfort in case of rain or wind, - you can stretch your bow and move without risk of being seen by deer.
It was lucky, the first deer that comes is a small buck.
The coyotes were here before us ...
Everything has to be redone. We leave that territory leave in peace the mother and the three young.
After putting the camera at several places in the woods, the spotted one corner in June will be good.
It's raining ... Fortunately the rain will soon stop and silence will return.
The waiting begins.
A young female arrives.
A young male's turn. I like this one!
We have to wait a while, stretch the bow without noise, take some time ...
On the video we can see that the arrow was not the best ... Once again coyotes were on place before us ...
The season began badly, two deers have been shot and two deers have been lost.
So once again a week later ...
Here is the out of one of the days spent at the lookout on the tree-stand that was very informative for me.
An old Quebecer hunter told that the deer has three main senses: - Smell, hearing and sight. As only one sens signals a fault, that's ok. Once a second sense alerts, it goes away.
This is one reason why hunting in rain is almost impossible, deer no longer hearing the sounds of the forest.
We always hear the river in the background, plus a little wind as we can see from the pictures.
All is calm, the wind fell, the conditions are ripe for a great hunt.
An hour later a female enters the site. The wind picked up and we see she is quite nervous.
It staid more than half an hour before me, leaving me many opportunities to shoot. But I was expecting a male!
Conditions are good, silence returned to the forest.
The rain starts to fall.
It rains now really hard and continuously.
The doe did not remain uncovered. As for me, I was totally unnecessary for an hour in pouring rain without moving on my tree-stand. The next time I go back now!
Here we go again a few days later. This time is the good one.
We do not see much on the image but the leaves have fallen and I'm not so well hidden.
Today I had some good shooting opportunities that I left. The previous days I missed a buck that I found too small, same for a female. I find myself once again before the classic dilemma of deer hunter: I shoot the female or I wait a little buck?
The season progresses, I've spent several days since I'm there and the spot will eventually be burned. So I decided to make this beautiful female. If this deer let me another chance!
