In ecology news, aloe cultivation provides the women of northern Kenya an income earning
opportunity. Since 2006, a group of women in the Namoruputh area have been growing aloe
and producing soaps, lotions, and shampoos, which are then marketed. The Kenya Forestry
Research Institute is assisting with the project. The approximately 40 female workers plan to
expand the range of items offered into the medicinal area. Ms. Lomoo Lochaan Kiyapa,
one of the members of the group, said of her work, “I get money to buy food and take
care of my family’s needs.”
Congratulations, women of Namoruputh, on your successful enterprise. Our thankfulness, also,
Kenya Forestry Research Institute, for your help. May more beautiful individuals discover
natural ways to promote healthy products and achieve flourishing livelihoods
