NARRATOR: Welcome to AT&T email.
In this video, we'll look at using Instant Messenger
to chat with your contacts.
Messenger lets you and your contacts
exchange messages in real time while you use AT&T email.
Use Messenger to communicate
with all of your AT&T email contacts.
You don't need to download any additional software;
your friends just sign into AT&T email, Messenger,
or another compatible instant messaging program.
You must be signed into Messenger to see your contacts.
Once you log in, you can start a chat
by selecting a name on the list
to start chatting with that person.
To begin your conversation with your friend,
type a message in the text area at the bottom of the window.
Then press the Enter key.
The conversation area shows your message.
When your friend responds,
that message appears in the conversation area too.
Keep the conversation going as long as you'd like.
You can even include emoticons in your messages.
Select the emoticon you want from the menu.
You can also send instant messages
to people who aren't in your online contacts.
Select the "+" sign to open a tab.
Type the Messenger ID
for that person you want to instant message.
Typically, this is the person's AT&T email address.
Press the Enter key to continue.
Notice that you have more than one conversation going
at one time, each one on a separate tab.
Now type an instant message in the window as before.
If your friend is online and willing to chat,
you'll soon get a response.
If this is a person you think you'll message often,
select the Add to Contacts button
to add him or her to your AT&T address book.
In the window that opens,
provide some basic information about your friend
and select the OK button.
Once you've added your friend to your address book,
the tab shows the name you've entered.
When you've got multiple conversations going on,
move between them by selecting their tabs.
End a conversation by closing its tab.
To close the Messenger window,
select the "x" in the upper right corner.
Thank you for watching.
