The Jewish Federation is somewhat of the backbone
of the Jewish community, so it provides advocacy
around issues of concern. It leads the community during
times of crisis locally or internationally. It convenes the
community around issues of importance. It sets priorities.
Barbash Family Vital Support Center is a place that's welcoming.
It is a social place, it's a place where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
The clients come in, they take a number and then they are called and they go
shopping with
a volunteer and they go up and down the aisles and pick up food for their family.
There's one client in particular, he is so
excited to have somebody to talk to, someone to check in on him
and ask him how his week has been.
Someone that is there that genuinely cares about him.
I can tell you when we moved up, really just from day one
there were a number of touch points between the synagogues, between
the Jewish Federation, between some of the agencies like the Young Adult Division.
There were people who really wanted
you to get involved and be an active participant with them.
I think the community gives you so many opportunities to be
a good Jewish dad because of all the programs that are out there
it is so easy to make the choices that we know that we really want to make.
I'm a great supporter of all the programs that they have here
because I think each one has its importance in the life
of seniors. Gives them a reason to get up in the morning and get dressed
and come to the JCC because
they have a class, they have a program, they have the gym.
Or they're just coming for the lunch.
This is the only hot meal that some of these people have
at lunch time, so it's really a very very important
part for seniors.
One thing that's unique about the Jewish Federation is that
it both builds the community here in Cincinnati and it fulfills our
responsibility to help choose who are in need around the world
Cincinnati has a culture of helping others,
it has a culture of volunteerism,
of philanthropy, of generosity
and that is what makes our community so strong and I'm just very fortunate that I have
been able to raise my family here.
