Hello and welcome to this Geek Tube tutorial
On how to install Google Chat
Firstly you will need to log in with your Google username and password
And then move to your mailbox
From here you will notice a chat panel
Where names of colleagues will appear
If you wish to chat with another person
Just enter their name or add their email and select "invite to chat"
Once they accept your invitation their name will appear on the list
Next to their name you will notice a coloured dot
Green indicates they are available, online and ready to chat
Yellow indicates they are idle,
meaning they have been away from their computer for 15 minutes
Red is busy
And grey indicates they are signed out of chat
In this example, Ann has a green light which shows she is available for a Chat
The chat window has a very simple layout
The text box is at the bottom and that is where you type your message
Once you hit enter, your chat is sent
At the top of the chat window you will see three icons
The first is for video calling
This allows each chat participant to talk to each other with sound and visuals
The next icon is just for phone calling
This allows the user to chat to the other person over the internet, just like a phone call
But computer to computer
The third and final icon is for adding more people to the chat
This is handy if you need others to participate in the conversation
A final tip, is you can also create custom status messages
From the “set status here” drop down menu, select custom message
Enter your custom message in the box and press “enter”
Your status message can be anything you want
Something funny, your favourite quote, a cool weblink
or just a note to say you’re hard at work or away from the computer
To clear your custom message, click the text under your name in chat and delete it
Or select another message from the status drop down menu
