Hello, and welcome to the Fort Report.
I'm Ehleshea Woodruff.
>>And I'm Chris Connolly.
The season of the summer blockbuster is closing in, Chris
and I know you are a movie buff.
Have you seen any of the summer movies yet?
Only one so far.
I wanted it to have a Norse god with an other-worldly hammer in it
that could summon lightning
but my wife wanted to see the one about girls fighting about wedding plans.
And it was packed.
>>Well you don't have to be elbow to elbow in
a crowed theater this summer.
Everyone's invited to come enjoy summertime's ultimate
"theatre-under-the-stars" experience - right in the heart of
downtown Fort Worth.
Bring along a blanket or chair and grab a spot on the
Chisholm Trail Parking Lot.
There will be four outdoor movie nights this summer and you can find out the list
at sundancesquare.com/events.
>>Whatcha Got Cooking, Daycamp?
>>Excuse me?
>>I guess you didn’t hear me…
Whatcha Got Cooking, Daycamp??
Wink, wink…nudge, nudge... say no more
Whatcha Got Cooking Daycamp is a camp at the Log Cabin Village to teach
fourth through eighth graders what cooking was like
before gas and electric stoves and microwaves.
You're reading it like a bad pick up line.
>>It screamed for it.
>> Know what I mean? Know what I mean?
Nudge, Nudge. Nudge, Nudge.
Say no more. Know what I mean?
>>I beg your pardon?
>>But in all seriousness, the camp is June 9 at 9 a.m.
Campers will prepare 19th century food with fellow campers and learn recipes
to try at home.
For more information or reservations go to logcabinvillage.com
Fort Worth is proud to be known for having both Cowboys and Culture.
Each spring, people across the U.S. descend upon Fort Worth to experience
one of the country's premier opera events, The Fort Worth Opera Festival.
>>You are speaking like you know something about it.
>>Well, I don't just go to screenings of B-movies.
I've been to their performances of La Giaconda and La Bohéme.
>>Hmmm. Well alright then.
[Opera singing, soprano]
And don't be fooled by the stereotype.
You won't be seeing any fat lady vikings at this event. And no, you don't have
to speak Italian. This event features English supertitles above the stage.
To find out this summer's performances you can visit www.fwopera.org
Chris this is the second surprise from you today.
I didn't figure you for the intellectual type.
Well Eleyshea, I always take part in the Mayor's Summer Reading Challenge.
It IS open to all ages.
>>Well, it’s nice to see you doing something productive.
>>Each child is looked upon as an individual
whose reading habits are in the formative period.
>>Chris is right.
The challenge is open to all ages and it encourages residents to read
as much as they can to win prizes and to participate in great programs.
It's all centered around this year's theme "Deep in the Heart of Texas,"
emphasizing heart-healthy lifestyles in addition to an activity that
should be close to every Texan's heart
reading.
The challenge takes place from May 21st to July 31st.
You can get started by visiting any Fort Worth Library branch
after Saturday, May 21, to pick up
a Reading Card.
Wait a minute, let me see that.
>>It's still literature.
I'm not ashamed.
