Hello and welcome to this program portfolio presentation. My name is
Stephanie Hicklin. This presentation provides an overview my program
portfolio.
It will address the professional goals, samples of my work, and a brief
summary of my journey through the masters educational technology graduate
program.
I began my career working in the field of early intervention with infants and
toddlers with disabilities and special needs and their families.
In 2007 I transitioned from providing service coordination to these
families to providing training and technical assistance to those who work
in South Carolina's early intervention program, known as BabyNet.
It was in this role where i realized how my love early intervention
and young children and technology could come together.
I began the educational technology master's program in the summer
of 2010.
Professionally, I plan to continue my work at the Center for Disability
Resources
where I find new ways to incorporate educational technology into my work
daily.
At the completion of this graduate program, I not only know how to
appropriately use technology in trainings, but I understand the learning
theories and strategies that support my projects.
The artifacts or work samples that I selected to showcase in this portfolio
represent not only projects that i can be proud of but also display the
growth that i have experienced during my time in the program.
Each artifact
is followed by an explanation of how it meets the AECT standards
and also which phases of the ADDIE model were used.
The project that I am most proud of and feel will get the most use by those in my
field
is my instructional media project.
I was able to bring knowledge and skills that i have developed throughout
the program
to apply to this project.
I had actually used the same content
in other projects but this seemed to be my best work
I thoughtfully used the analysis, design,
and the beginning part of the development phases of the ADDIE model
for this project
Because it was such a large amount of content, I will continue to expand this
project to complete the development phase,
implement the training,
and evaluate the training with BabyNet staff this summer.
Performance indicators that were met in completion of this project
include analyzing the learners
and their needs.
I created an outline and flowchart to plan for the module's development.
I was able to apply appropriate evaluation strategies by using knowledge
checks with questions, incorporating various levels Bloom's taxonomy. This
first phase has also been reviewed by colleagues who have provided formative
evaluation feedback.
This project displays my
instructional products and visual and media literacy
As i said earlier at the module
was developed using Articulate Storyline.
The narration was recorded and edited using Audacity.
I was also sure to include the transcript of the narration in the notes
section of the Storyline player.
Although Storyline uses flash which is not recognized by iPads, iPods, and iPhones,
Articulate does have a free app that allows the module to work well on these
devices.
During my Educational Technology internship experience, I ventured to a new
and unfamiliar territory.
I used all phases of the ADDIE model to create an online learning module that used a
variety of learning objects and evaluation methods to provide 3 hours
of professional development for BabyNet staff.
This was a pilot program that incorporated facilitated discussion
boards for team members to use together. This project eventually morphed into
my instructional medi project for EDET 793 because
of the lack of facilitators for the discussion groups; although, this is
something we are still working on.
I met many performance indicators with this semester long project.
Just to name a few are using the principles of universal design for learning,
like providing a variety of formats
for content delivery including narrated PowerPoints and pdfs with transcripts
Learners were also able to demonstrate understanding in several
formats, such as discussion board posts, quizzes, and email discussion.
This project provided me the best opportunity to really put into practice
all the knowledge that i have gained in the Ed Tech program.
I find myself wanting to use some form of the ADDIE model with every project.
All of my colleagues now know exactly who ADDIE is :)
The last artifact that I want to discuss is my instructional design group project
for EDET 722.
This was my first large group project in the program and I feel that it was a
very successful experience.
For me, working with unfamiliar peers is sometimes the a challenge; however,
this group worked together beautifully. We were able to meet several performance
indicators throughout the duration of the project.
My role was to be the graphic designer/multimedia producer; however, we all
stepped up as a team to make sure the project was a success.
As I reflect back back through my time in the Educational Technology program,
i see how much I have grown as a professional.
Not only do i see it, but i hear it from colleagues quite often.
Throughout this journey, I have developed so many skills,
including higher level thinking and planning skills,
skills related
to specific technology, more in-depth research skills, and definitely higher
quality writing skills.
These skills are sure to serve me well in my future endeavors.
I have not been on this journey alone.
My professors are amazing role models for all of us.
All of you put into practice in our courses exactly what you were teaching us.
You have expected nothing but the best and hopefully that's what you have
received.
My peers have also been wonderful role models. I'm always amazed to see people
from so many different backgrounds working together
to achieve common goals. It's wonderful that we will all take these skills
with us into so many
avenues of life.
Last but not least, I must acknowledge my family and friends. As a mother of two, a
full-time employee,
and the white of a soldier,
sometimes i didn't think i could go on,
but my loved ones always helped and encouraged me. My children have heard
"shh, mommy has school work,"
way too often,
but hopefully my hard work will encourage them
encourage them to set big goals
of their own for their careers one day.
I am very proud of my achievements and thankful for those who helped along the
way.
