Now most people think that when you're on stage, you have to do things perfect, and
if you don't do things perfect people are going to think oh, that was kind of a sub
par performance. It's not actually true. In fact when you make a mistake that's got to
be the opportunity for the crowd to go completely nuts. I don't know why that is, but it's that
way. Vulnerability. It's something so important to have. It's one thing to be saying a rehearsed
piece where you actually tell people that you don't have it all together. People like
that stuff. But when you actually demonstrate it in your performance accidentally and then
you're okay with it, man they'll love you forever. I was at this performance that I
had for this thing called the Wizard Academy. And they'd ask me to get up and perform this
piece that I hadn't performed in a while. It's called Oklahoma Rock and at some point
towards the end, I can't remember what I was going to say. Oh, I mean it was just like
that. I was trying to remember the words to the piece, but I couldn't remember them and
so then I just let them out, let them know I can't remember exactly what it is that I
was going to talk about, it's kind of embarrassing. Well they were laughing along. I figured out
somewhere to go from there and I closed it out. I got the most thunderous applause, it
was crazy. Afterwards people came up to me and they were like I never heard you forget
a word before. You know, you've always remembered your lyrics, you always know what they are,
it's so impressive that you can remember so many words and this time was the night where
you actually forgot something. And it was just so great, it made the piece even that
much more powerful. I almost thought that you had included it in there on purpose for
a little bit. Man, if you've got that kind of mixture of confidence and vulnerability,
just let your guard down with them. They're yours forever.
