Hi! My name is Grady Johnson and I am a competition backgammon player and today I am representing
expertvillage.com. To start off with I think we ought to take a look at how to set up the
board. Now the game of backgammon has the same basic setting whenever you play backgammon.
There are some variations to the game but they have different names like backgammon,
acey duecy that kind of thing. For backgammon though, you are always going to set it up
the same way. So each opponent will choose of course their dice, they take their cup
and pick out the dice and then they go ahead and get ready to set out their stones. Now
to start with, you will be working on your home board and your outer board. Your opponent’s
home board is across from your home board and of course the same is true of the outer
board for the opponent. You will start on the sixth point on your home board, which
is actually right here. You will put five stones there. Once the sixth point is covered
on your home board, you will then move over to the eight point on your outer board and
put three stones there. Now that you have covered the eighth point on your outer board,
it is time to cover a point on the outer board of your opponent. This is the thirteenth point
on the board. Five stones will be placed there as well. Okay, now we are almost done. Now
on the home board of the opponent which is your twenty fourth point, you are going to
go ahead and put your final two stones, that is right, that is the number one point for
the opponent on his home board. This is the basic way you set up a backgammon game and
your opponent will simply mirror this same pattern. Now you set up the board and you
are ready to play. Each player then rolls one die and then that will determine who goes
first. Now this is how you want to set up the board every time you play the game of
backgammon.
