Two years ago, on the Internet, I stumbled on earrings made with soutache technique.
I liked it so much, that I wanted to get to know the secret of it.
I went for a workshop, where I learnt the basis, but it was not enough…
And thereupon I set up on facebook a group of women interested in soutache.
I invited the people who were into it. I started to post my first embroiders and
girls were commenting it. After over a year, there is about 700 of us.
We give advice one other, present what we do, and comment one another’s embroiders.
We teach and learn from one another.
Last year’s autumn we hit on an idea to embroider a necklace for an auction to
WOŚP (charity organisation). Ewelina Rząd came up with it, gave a main idea.
50 girls stepped up and they made a gorgeous, colorful, in all the colours of
the rainbow, neclace. It was bidded on WOŚP auction.
The necklace was very popular with the crowds and its final price reached 4750 zł.
After the auction’s end more and more people wanted to take part in such a project.
Thus I decided to set up a new one.
Over 100 persons sent ready elements to me. We decided to embroider 4 necklaces
about the ‘seasons’ matter. There were about 200 elements.
I had an idea so that girls came to me and we sewed it together.
Among the girls who embroidered elements, 9 arrived in here.
We sewed the elements and that’s how the necklaces were made.
We want to give it for a charitable auction. There is one girl, Marysia Piechowska,
who lost her right hand 1,5 years ago and she collects money for a prosthesis.
This girl deals in painting and making jewellery with a left hand.
We called her and she agreed so that this auction was organized for her.
Foundation that cares of Marysia is giving us its account, where the auction is going
to be put up. The money collected will be directly donated for Marysia’s account.
We will also find a possibility to develop our skills. We sew everything together.
Every of us learns sth new, because each one of us has her own technique.
Thus, if we link it together, we can make sth great together.
We came so that we could sew going-to-be necklaces, together… so that
we had an occasion to get to know one another… and we could help Marta.
Let’s don’t keep it as a secret - there is a lot of work, over 180 elements!
Marta wouldn’t be able to sew it all by herself.
Arrival in here was a great occasion to learn how to sew some elements,
to look how girls work, to play with colours.
Really, we had fun while collecting all these elements: spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Girls were using a lot of different fabrics. It is interesting, because, sewing alone,
we haven’t got an access to such a variety of them.
I would like to thank all the girls who are participating in the action,
as well as those who were sewing with me. Thanks!
