The long term objective of the learning garden master plan
is to create accessibility and gathering spaces
for students, faculty and staff, as well as community members.
We are going to be installing a seating area within the garden
which you can see toward the front,
north of the organic gardening section.
There is a gathering space that will be located in front of the tool shed
and the earthen oven, which are currently existing structures in the garden.
Then, kind of a center piece of the entire garden will be
an outdoor classroom, which is the art mosaic gathering space
to be designed and created by our own faculty here at PCC
in the welding, building construction technology,
art and the environmental studies department.
There will also be, as you can see
on the right side of the path of the master plan,
there is an exit to create two accessibility points
that are entrances as well as exits
for the community of Rock Creek to access the garden.
So the whole loop itself that is campus based
will be connected and part of the campus.
As you can see there are multiple areas of the garden installed.
We've got the organic gardening class area
which is part of our biology department.
The child development center,
this is field of the components of the grant that is funding them.
They are taking part in the learning garden.
You see our cafeteria area which is where we grow food for the cafeteria.
And Terra Nova school,
is a high school located in the Beaverton School District
that is expanding their community supported agriculture program
through a land share agreement with us. PCC Rock Creek.
And then we also have the community garden area
which is open to all PCC faculty, students and staff
to grow food for themselves or other parties in the garden.
This summer there are going to be some real changes done in the garden.
There will be installation of a permanent irrigation system
installed for all five areas of the garden.
As well as permanent permeable pathways
so we'll be ADA compliant at that point.
And the...we will be allowing everyone at PCC and beyond
in the learning garden this summer.
