Physician heal thyself, good advice, but how do you date a doctor? This is Doctor Paul,
author of Boomer Girls: A Boomer Woman's Guide to Men and Dating, and host of Ask Doctor
Paul. Well there are doctors and there are doctors, there are doctors who are PhDs and
there are doctors who are medical doctors. And when someone asks me do you have a PhD
and I said yes, what does that mean? Pile higher and deeper, because I want to interject
a sense of humor, and why do I do that? Because I don't want people to feel intimidated. It's
tough for people who have higher degrees to be accepted by those who otherwise feel maybe
intimidated by that. The best way to date a doctor is to look beyond that title. Whether
it be a PhD, a medical doctor, a doctor of jurisprudence who would be an attorney, a
lawyer, a dentist, whatever. So what you want to do is get beyond that title and look to
what type of person are we talking to, who is the human being behind this? Of course
he saves lives every day if he's a medical doctor. Of course he can give you cosmetic
surgery if he's a cosmetic surgeon. You don't go to him for that reason, ladies, trust me,
all right. The point is that you have to go beyond the title, go to the person. They will
appreciate it more and they'll appreciate you more for it, and if you use that in introducing
your friends, oh I'm dating a doctor, quote unquote, that doesn't go down well either.
I'm dating a person, a human being, that's who you're dating. So how do you date a doctor?
Just like anyone else. Dating the person. This is Doctor Paul. May your fantasies of
today be your realities of tomorrow.
