How do I change Backgrounds?
First, let's change the background image for the whole body.
Find a tileable image that you can use.
I download a free image from http://www.grsites.com/archive/textures/view/source=archive/id=2178/
Then I save it in my image folder
and add it as background to the body in the stylesheet.
A tileable image will create a seamless and endless image, when it's repeated in the browser.
Let's give the menu a bit of a gradient.
With modern browsers, you don't need an image for this, you can do it in CSS
There is a good tool to create CSS gradients here: http://www.colorzilla.com/gradient-editor/
I choose a gradient that has a light grey on top, a lighter grey in the middle and goes back to the light grey at the bottom.
To include it in the stylesheet, I just have to copy all this into my style.css.
It includes all the special css rules that will work in most browsers.
Even in IE7 and IE8
As a last cosmetic touch, I will give the menu a bit padding
If I look closely, I can se a grey border, that I also want to remove.
