Hi! I’m Mark Black and welcome to expertvillage.com. We’re going to talk about intermediate theory
concepts. I’m going to write the names down. D, D minor, F sharp minor, G, A, B minor,
and then C diminished…sorry this is C sharp. Now, let’s separate that. Now, in music
and theory this is our intermediate theory class, so what we want to do is not know just
how to play a song on the key of D. We want to be able to play a song in any key, and
we want to be able to put songs together in any key. So what we do is we assign each of
these chords a number based on this position in the scale. The 1 chord is the chord built
on the first note on the scale, D, and it’s a major chord. I’m using the roman numeral
and it’s a capital. And then the 2 chord is a small roman numeral 2. The 3 chord is
small roman numeral 3. The 4 chord is a capital 4. The 5 chord is a capital 5 because it’s
a major chord. The 6 chord is a small 6 and the 7 chord is a diminished small letters.
