Hello, welcome to Grammar 5.
When you sign on to the Moodle site,
this is the picture you will always see,
and this is a short orientation
to the links you will always see
in the top box on the Moodle site
that are always going to be available.
You’ll always see something that says “Start Here.”
That’s what you clicked in order to see
what you’re seeing now.
Then you’ll see a link to the course syllabus …
and you will have to open it …
I guess this is going to take a minute …
and there you are …
OK …
and then there’s a Forum for “Questions and Answers,”
and a little bit later we’ll go over
just how to use this,
but if you have a question,
about the course or about how to use Moodle,
go ahead and post it here,
and I’ll answer it,
or if another student sees it first,
perhaps another student will answer it.
Then to navigate back to the course, the main page,
go back to here.
I keep a link to a world map
because a lot of what we do will refer to geography,
and you might want to just check.
There’s a link to a site called “The English Page.”
This was actually suggested
by one of the students in a previous semester.
This has lots and lots of different sources
that are useful for ESL students,
and especially useful at your level.
You have a link to the “Longman Online Dictionary,”
which I think is the best free online dictionary
for ESL students.
It happens to be British English,
which can occasionally be a little problem
but for the most part is not.
Unfortunately, the American version of this costs money to subscribe to,
and the British one is free,
so I’m giving you a link to the British one.
Then you have a link to Engrade,
and this is the online system that I use
to keep track of your grades.
You’ll see on the Moodle site,
a link that says “Grades,”
but don’t pay attention to that,
I don’t use that.
Your grade record will be in Engrade,
and later I’ll give you instructions
on how to sign on
and look at your current grade.
So that’s a basic introduction
to what you’ll first see every time you sign on.
