I'm talking to you about music, and I can try and explain to you in words why music
is a wonderful thing, but actually the music itself is also a language. So if I play a
piece of music now, really I don't need to say anything. You'll either like it or you
won't like it, but you will feel something from that.
It's not going to be like stand-up comedy - I'm not going to start picking on you if
you sit in the front, so don't worry about it!
I think that's the wonderful thing about the generosity of folk music - that, as Kathryn
has said, it belongs to everybody.
We musicians bring great benefit to others, and in turn by making ourselves open to other
people, we reduce the risk of being in some sort of exclusive, alienating club.
I think it's really useful to have a situation like this where people from different areas,
from different places, from different types of music - performers, teachers, whatever
- are sharing their experiences, and the combined knowledge of all these people is far more
than any one of us is going to have.
Well I've thoroughly enjoyed it. I think it's a really good idea when musicians of all sorts
of different backgrounds get together to collaborate, just to talk and share ideas.
I've been completely overwhelmed. I think it's absolutely inspirational.
