Contrary to the name of North-Center Halls, the buildings are neither located on the north end of campus, or the center of campus.
Instead, North-Center Halls are located on the southwestern part of campus.
Respectively, just north of South Hall.
Hi, my name is Lisa Maida, and I’m going to be your compass for today’s tour of North-Center Halls.
While the halls are commonly called North-Center, they’re actually separate halls.
Now come follow me as I show you the similarities and differences of each building.
Once you take a step inside North-Center's front lobby near the desk, you’ll figure out these halls are a lot about comfort and space.
The halls share and are connected by a front desk with a gigantic house lounge nearby.
It’s definitely a site you have to see.
Stop by the house lounges for a nice place to meet with the study group, and enjoy the view of Providence Road and Memorial Stadium.
As you can see, the locks on the doors are operated by electronic card swipe, meaning you’ll need your student ID to access your rooms.
So don’t forget to update and encode your key at the front desk, or you’ll be lost without it.
Oh, yeah! If you open up the windows during football games, you’ll be sure to hear the chanting of M-I-Z-Z-O-U.
When I see students out in the hallway it just makes it seem a little less hotel-like and a little more ‘Hey-We-All-Live-Here-and-We-All-Have-Fun’.
Once I see the staff really put together things that allow them to be social with others, I think they become more comfortable and they come down expecting to meet new people.
Um, one of my favorite success stories: Uh, Center Hall did an event called ‘Getting to Know You S’more’.
We’ve discovered that when we do those interactions really well to begin with, students start planning those social activities themselves through floor government, through hall government.
And at that point, student staff just sort of get to sit back and appreciate the work that they’ve done.
Um, and then partake in those social interaction as well without feeling like they’re working. They get to be social as well.
The only way you can consider a place in a home is if there is a kitchen.
So you better start calling North-Center your home.
The halls have a kitchen that is well equipped to suit your cooking needs with appliances such as a fridge, microwave, and oven.
And my personal favorite—a table and chairs.
Since I mentioned necessities for a place to be considered home, North-Center does have a laundry room.
Located in the basement of Center Hall, you can find a large enough space to tend to all of your laundry needs.
If you find yourself staying out late to do laundry, you can take use of the nearby Southwest Mizzou Market.
Residents of North-Center Halls can take a short walk under the breezeway from Center Hall to go to the market that houses the home of freshness—AKA Subway.
Hey Stone.
Sup, how are you?
Pretty good. Havin’ a good weekend?
Yea I did. Yea.
This is Lisa.
Hi, nice to meet you.
She’s, uh, taking like a tour of the building.
Ok.
And, um, we were wondering if you could show her your room.
Yeah, sure. Come in.
Thank you.
Hey Blake, how’s it goin’?
Hey. Nice to see you.
Hi Blake. I’m Lisa.
Nice to meet you.
Yeah, like James said, I’m takin’ a tour of North-Center so thanks for lettin’ me see inside here.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
You guys just watchin’ TV?
Yeah we’re just watchin TV enjoyin’ our Sunday, I guess.
(Sigh). I like the place. Did it come with the furniture?
Uh, yes it did. It comes with a couch. A desk and a TV.
Okay. Cool.
I chose to live here because I really liked the amenities with the room.
Um, one thing I was worried about when I was movin’ in here was the location, but it hasn’t turned out to be too bad.
Yeah, so you’re right across from Faurot Field.
Yeah, it’s very nice. Game day is great.
Yeah?
I can wake up—we had a lot of eleven o’clock games this year—so I can wake up.
Wake up, grab a hot dog at a tail gate.
Absolutely.
O yeah.
So what’s your favorite part about living here in North-Center?
It’s really nice. The texture. I don’t know, compared to most dorms, kind of older, this is actually new and nice. So I really like it.
I really like the computer lab that we have downstairs.
I actually do pretty much put in the majority of my studies in the computer lab—um, at the bottom of Center
—so that’s probably one of my favorite things about it.
And you have access to that 24 hours?
Yes.
Cool. Yeah, that’s neat. I saw that little market down there, too.
Oh, absolutely. Subway’s open until two o’clock here.
Oh nice.
Any time you eat…
Fourth meal.
Since the buildings represent the suite style living, you can expect to find a double-suite room which houses two residents per room and is connected to another double room by a bathroom.
Thank you guys so much for lettin’ us inside your room.
Yeah.
Um, I hope you guys have a great rest of the semester and maybe I’ll see you guys around on campus, and say “Hi”.
Yeah, cool.
Okay, awesome.
Bye, have a good day.
See ya.
So, yeah. That was North-Center.
Yeah, I really enjoyed that. Blake and Stone are really nice.
Yeah! Their great guys.
Thanks for showin’ me around.
Absolutely. Anytime. Come on by if you ever have any questions.
Alright cool. Thanks, James. Have a good Sunday.
Have a good weekend.
