Every nursing student has to go to a community rotation. I was noticing in the
nurse's office that sometimes the kids don't know how to communicate, so one kid came
in and he was trying to tell us that he felt nauseous
but he didn't know how to say I'm nauseous so instead he just kept telling
us I'm throwing up, I'm throwing up.
And it took another person coming in to ask: Do you feel like you're gonna
throw up?
Or did you actually throw up? The pamphlet contains signs that are
traditionally used to describe symptoms such as cough
sick
itch
temperature
and then there's other signs that you would use in a hospital setting for
emergency
hospital
the basic stuff that you would
tell a hospital or a doctors' offices
So, they are going home to their moms and dads and they have not learned those words
yet
so what happens is
the child is not feeling well and they need to explain what's wrong and the
parents don't know so now by sending this great pamphlet home,
they can just point to the picture and the mom or the dad then learns that sign along
with their child.
