[female voice] Hi, I'm Michelle Lane [2nd female voice] and I'm Nancy Vizenor
[in unison] and we teach in the School of Business!
[music]
[1st female] I teach in strategy and entrepreneurship, and I
also teach in sustainability management.
[2nd female] And I teach entrepreneurship, small business and
marketing research.
And so, what suggestions do we have to offer to new faculty coming in? I would say
get acquainted with people in the community - they're wonderful
...socialize with
the other faculty members - they're very supportive
and uh...
find time to enjoy the students - they're wonderful to work with
on many different
projects and things going on on campus.
[2nd female] So, she stole a couple of mine... but I would say definitely
I agree with getting to know faculty, especially faculty that have been here awhile...
and that finding... that seeking them out - they're
usually really willing to answer your questions and to help you
and also take advantage of lot of the resources that are
available to faculty and students on campus... and so
understanding what's available and using those resources... the people are really friendly and they'll want to help you!
[female voice] Hi, I'm Marisol Cortez Rincon, I'm an
assistant professor in the Department of Anthropology.
I teach classes based on
archaeology. My specialty is Meso-American warfare...
and I would highly recommend to
come out here - Humboldt State University is a great environment
for professors, and researchers as well.
My department has been wonderful and very supportive in getting me help and the assistance I needed
for my program in Belize... I just highly recommend coming here!
[male voice] Hi, my name is David Vernon, I'm a professor in the Environmental Resources Engineering Department.
Welcome to HSU -
the end of my first year I think
my main word of advice is that not everything has to be perfect!
I came here with very high ambitions to achieve excellence in teaching immediately and get my
research program started immediately and
be active in service immediately and
the community has been very tolerant to the fact that these things take some time...
so don't be too worried if not everything goes according to plan
- everyone is human.
There's been a very supportive community here... so, welcome on board!
