hi everybody and welcome back to relax my dog, today me and Milo are going to
be talking to you guys about how to stop your dog pulling on the lead, we have a
few top tips to share with you so let's get started
now the first top tip is to just change the sequence, if your dog continues to
pull on a lead if you just stand still and stop they will eventually learn that
they need to follow your sequence instead of create their own, now
obviously this method doesn't work immediately this will need quite a lot
of practice meaning that it won't be a quick solution but eventually it will
work really really well, if this one doesn't work for you you can always use
an alternative method by using a harness with your dog this gives you a little
bit more control over what they're doing where they are because obviously it
wraps around their legs as well as their neck, this will let your dog know that
you have more control over where they're going than they do and eventually
hopefully stop them pulling on the lead.
Now the next one is one that we used regularly with Milo when we were trying to stop him from pulling on the lead and
this is by reinforcing the word 'heel,' obviously heel means where your dog sort of
stays close to you, whenever we say heel Milo just either stops where he
years and waits for us to reach him or he will come towards us and start
walking next to us, that is a really good method that you practically need to use
in every single day of your life with a dog because you want to be able to tell your
dog to come back or to heel or to stop.
Now this last one is quite a tricky one for your dog and this is to use a reverse method on them, basically if they
start pulling on the lead stop and turn around and start walking in the opposite
direction then they will see that you are in front and then they will try and
race forward and just keep doing this until eventually they will come closer
to you and hopefully just stand and walk right next to you, as you can imagine
again and that one can take a bit of time normally if your dog is a regular
puller on the lead it might be a good idea to do that at the beginning of
every single walk just to let them know that hey I'm in control here, if I tell
you to come back you need to come back to us and to stop them from pulling on the lead
That is it for me and Milo for today's video, don't forget to give
